How to abuse Ring of Spell Storing?

The usefulness spells depends upon three criteria:

1. They need to be personal range or attack spells. If other people can cast them on you, there's not much point in casting them yourself.

2. Long duration spells are good. You can put them in the ring, cast them immediately, and leave the ring open for something else.

3. They need to be useful at minimum caster level (depending upon your DM, but a literal reading of the rules suggests that they are always minimum caster level) and at the cost of a standard action (since the ring explicitly says that casting is at least a standard action. (Note that this rules out wraithstrike and most of the swift spells).

So, what does that leave?
On the sor/wiz list, we have false life and alter self. If we're running 3.0 (or allowing it in 3.5) Energy Buffer is a great spell for the ring. Dimension door is another good choice. Fire shield would be a good choice for a melee character and blink/greater blink are great choices for characters with sneak attack and pretty darn good choices in general. If you've got a greater ring of spell storing, moment of prescience and iron body are both good choices. Nightstalker's transformation is probably a good choice too.

If you didn't have access to the cleric list already, recitation would be a good choice, as would holy sword.

I'd run all of the good 1st level Personals on the arcane side, myself.

I'm not sure where Hunter's Mercy is, but it's probably a good bet.

Plus a Sheild ... because 4 free AC is always nice.

Maybe Alter Self.

But definately True Strike. With a ranged character like that, the ability to get a TS is quite nice.

Hunter's Mercy is in Magic of Faerûn. It's like True Strike, just better, and only for ranged attacks.

Dunno Hunters Mercy, but Arrow Mind allows you to threaten nearby squares with your bow, and you dont provoke AoOs from ranged attacks for its duration. 1st level ranger spell.
and Wraithstrike allows your melee attacks to strike as touch attacks for one round.

Also nice if your an archer and have some way of getting it....Ranger level 4 spell, Arrow Storm. Fire one arrow at every target within 1 range increment, up to your character level. cast as a swift action, then take a full round action to make all those attacks.

True Strike, maybe x2, sounds good.

When to use it? On round 1, with your bane arrow. And then again as soon as you know you're not targeting an illusion.

I would definitely have False Life running. Dragons deal HP damage, usually, so you want as many HP as possible.

Shield is a good candidate for an archer, unless you have an animated shield.

Alter self will just buff your AC. More AC is never a bad thing, but you might be able to do better than that.

Obscuring Mist could be good as a defensive spell, although I suppose you can get its effects out of a smokestick or three. If you have Shot on the Run you can run forward, take a shot, then duck back behind the cloud for total concealment.

Shadow Conjuration is on the list for it's amazing versatility. Need a flanker? Got one. Need a wall? Got one. Need to drop some area damage? Got that too.

Magic Jar: There are creatures with better physical stats than you. Not to mention being able to take advantage of abilities like, say, Regeneration.
