I imagine this is commerical. There several things you can do. First, if you have an advertising budget, you can buy online advertising. Depending on the sites, this can range from cheap to quite expensive. I would try Google Ad words
http://adwords.google.com/select/Login

Second, make sure to mention your domain name in any printed media for your company.

Lastly, there are several companies that specialize in SEO - search engine optimization. They attempt to push your listing in search engines higher so you get more hits (hopefully on qualified searches and not "junk" listings).

Don't forget - even if you offer a product or service, you need to "tickle" their money-bone. Content is king. Offer some free advice or guidance; produce a monthly newsletter with tips. Make sure your website is updated frequently.

More specifically I have no idea what green architecture is.

What's important to get your website listed in search engines is to have *other sites* link to your website.

To have people come to your website, the way to your website must start where those people are. Means, you have to figure out where your potential customers might look for what you have to offer, and put your website up there (if you can, that is). The more the better.

The best thing of all is creating compelling content.

If you have good enough content, then people will find you and start linking to you, and your site will become more popular.

There are other methods, but this is far and away the best strategy for long term growth that I've seen.

Yup. Find green and architecture news blogs/sites and see if you can submit some article on your site to them. You have to go beyond "hey, look at my cool site" and actually offer them content, like "here's a case study on a retrofitted green roof on a college campus in Minnesota." You might start with http://www.treehugger.com, a green news blog. They have a design/architecture section.

Is your site up? Can we take a look?

Thanks for the input. Green architecture is when you use environmentally friendly architecture to reduce cost. An example would be piping water through your house to buffer temperature changes. The water will run underground where it will be cooled in the summer before coming into the house to cool the house, and warmed by the ground in the winter...

Sorry - but the site is not up yet. i know i am putting the carriage before the horse, but I just wanted to get this info ready for when the site does go up, I would have a lot of the work done already... instead of wait til that moment and then say "OK - now to get people to come", I will have already lined up a few things to draw in the initial visitors, and expand from there.

Well, that just about sums up anything I could think of ... well said! :)

You have to be a little careful with this. Some search engines do not appreciate being fooled, and they'll stick you in a very nasty little spot reserved at the end of all the other search results if you are caught employing some of these techniques.
