How to modify 'forward' and 'back' buttons on mouse?

At work, one of the computers has an odd set-up for the side buttons on the mouse (the ones you can click with your thumb). Instead of going forward and back through webpages, it does page up and page down. The normal mouse options don't let me modify this at all. Does anyone know how I can change it?

Probably the specific software/driver for that mouse has the options available. The normal mouse options are likely the default windows driver options. (i.e. Windows recognized it as a mouse, and did not need additional software for it to work, but if you want all the options possible, you may need the manufacturer's software.)

Yep, that is quite probable, that you simply have no access to the appropriate software.

Talk to your system administrator.

Nope. On the staff computers, I could uninstall programs, modify setting, and install new software without a problem, I'm pretty sure. The public computers have awesomely well-designed limits, but the ones I use, I don't think I've ever come up against any sort of restrictions put in place by the IT guys.

Well, you could always try to get a recent mouse driver / mouse software package for your mouse and install that.

What kind of mouse is it, anyways? If it is a Logitech, look out for an installed program called "SetPoint", which allows you to change mouse button settings.

I think Microsoft has something similar called "Intellipoint" or something.

It's a Dell mouse. The whole package is Dell. There are two computers at the main desk, pretty much identical, except for the mouse difference.

Eh, I guess I'll just use the one with the mouse that works the way I want it.
