How Well Received Was "The Complete Barbarian"?

I don't know about anyone else, but I recall thinking that it was merely ok . However, I did not think that it compared to David Howery's excellent revision of the 1e Barbarian from the Dragon article "Tracking Down the Barbarian" in issue 148 (which I also consider superior to the 3e barbarian).

It was nice, but I believe the sourcebook "Shaman" was more interesting in offering good ideas for adventures and the role-playing of characters from primitive cultures.

Cheers,

No idea "how well received" it was, but our group liked it enough.

It brought back the 1e barbarian adequately enough for our particular group's standards. It was certainly used throughout the 2e games we played from the moment it was released.
