How would you do exalted???

mecketh

First Post
Ok the more I read about 4th ediction , more images come to mind about use the ruleset in the scenario of exalted games.

In my mental draft we can use a template for the exalteds(something like: dont need to make rolls to stabilize, can spend a minor action to know the direction or time of the day or night based on exalted type,spend a minor action to make the caste mark burn for a scene to iluminate a area , etc) and a encounter power to simulate the caste power(dawns for example can get +2 to resistances and atack rolls for the combat, and the ability to expend a minor action to make a char atack against the will of a minion to force it to flee).

Class powers can be used to simulate the charms of the exalted and rituals to simulate the spells of various circles.Some trademarked charms (like heavenly guardian defense) can be created like powers and so on.

But since I dont have the books (yet) I dont know if this is doable or simple wish thinking...so people that have the books give me your opinion please^^

Best wishes

I think you're pretty much right. I do not have the books, but as you've envisioned it makes a lot of sense. A few months back when I was incredibly bored (waiting for a class to start) I zoned out and started thinking about converting characters from various fighting games w/ the limited info released. Incredibly easy. Powers can be renamed. Fluff can be altered. Players can RP with their characters by adding fluff in the form of fighting style descriptions that are mechanically relevant in combat. I think if someone who has the books sees this they'll concur (they may disagree w/ my opinion about in combat RP... but... I very firmly believe that).

It's certainly the best at simulating a game that follows the mechanics layed out in the Exalted books.

I'm willing to be convinced that another system would be better for evoking the feel and/or style implied by the non-mechanical parts of the Exalted books.

I´m sorry to say that but the exalted ruleset isnt the best for the job, it tries to be a light-rule sistem at heart but actually is a rule-heavy sistem whith LOTS and LOTS of mistakes and misinformation(mostly because of autors that dont understand the sistems in the core).The worst offender is SCROLL OF THE MONK whith have a section(sideral martial arts) that is unplayable as writen whith the other parts playable whith lots of house rules. Try google some reviews but beware ... ;)

However the setting of exalted is so full of win that people still play the game even whith the flawed ruleset(me included), some sort of love-hate relationship.

This^_^

Exalted is a game about epics and huge adventures, whith heroes that have great powers and destinies but also incredible flaws. The setting as writen is a huge bomb about to explode in a dozen different ways and the unique people whith the power to save the world are the PCs.It´s also huge and allow for lots of different play styles and character types, etc etc ...(sorry I´m a fanboy :D )

D&d 4th seen able to deliver this so I´m asking...it can? if so...its hard or easy? some suggestions?

I really hope so^^

I love the Exalted system but couldn't survive the ruleset. Still good memories from my campaign.

You need to treat the castes as races of D&D. And your only balance them within their breed ; Solar are supposed to be more powerful at equal 'level' than dragon blooded.

A fun thing could be to have exalted have a pool of essence and the various encounter/daily/at-will powers would instead follow a cost/point model.

Then you can model part of the difference between exalte by how deep their essence pool is.

Also, less class specificity. Your caste acts also like a bit of a class but you can pilfer outside of it somewhat freely (Like half of your powers or something).

All in all, it looks very possible.

Well I picked up the rules compilation and I will try to make something ^^

I will post soon tomorrow, after some sleep^^

but thanks

Here's something that I came up with a few months ago. I haven't cleaned it up at all, but it might have some ideas that you can tweak.
Everyone is "human". As an Exalt, though, you gain the abilities of a race and a class, even though you don't look like the race. This is what distinguishes you from everyone else.

Rules and Mechanics- L = Level
Personal Essence (motes): (Main ability modifier x half L)
Refill- Personal essence refills at the end of each encounter.
Peripheral Essence (motes): (Main ability modifier x L) + Main ability
Refill- Peripheral essence spent reduces by L every hour that it is not used. It refills after an extended rest.
Power Costs:
Encounter: Half L of power
Daily: L of power
Anima Banners: Effects automatically die down after an encounter.
You may opt to have your caste mark glow like a candle for free. You may automatically know what time it is.
Activation levels based on amount of Peripheral Essence spent-
Between 1 and L: Caste mark obviously glows and cannot be hidden. You give off light like a candle.
Up to (2 x L): Anima banner glows. You are surrounded by enough light for anyone in the are to read by. You give off light like a sunrod.
Up to (3 x L): Anima banner flares. Your Caste Encounter power automatically activates and must be paid for. The light you give off is obvious for miles. It’s like a rising sun. There is a totemic image in the light.

Caste Traits-
Dawn Caste: Use the Dragonborn or Dwarf traits.
Classes: Fighter, Warlord, Paladin
Encounter power- 5 Peripheral - Your anima banner glows. Roll Str vs Will to cause fear in your enemies.
Daily power- Add your level as a bonus to anything based on Strength. This costs a number of motes equal to half of the bonus.
Night Caste: Use the Elf or Eladrin traits.
Classes: Ranger, Rogue
Encounter power- 5 – You gain concealment and enemies receive a penalty to their Perception checks to see you equal to your Dexterity modifier.
Daily power- Add your level as a bonus to anything based on Dexterity. This costs a number of motes equal to half of the bonus.
Zenith Caste: Use the Dwarf or Elf stats.
Classes: Warlord, Cleric, Paladin
Encounter power- 5 – Your anima flares. Roll (Wis or Cha) vs Will to deal an amount of damage to any undead within (Wis or Cha modifier) squares of you equal to (half level x Wis or Cha modifier).
Daily power- Add your level as a bonus to anything that is based on Wisdom or Charisma. This costs a number of motes equal to half of the bonus.
Twilight Caste: Use the Eladrin or Tiefling stats.
Class: Wizard
Encounter power- 5 – Immediate- You gain DR equal (level + Int) to one attack.
Daily power- Add your level as a bonus to anything that is based on Intelligence. This costs a number of motes equal to half of the bonus.
Eclipse Caste: Use the Tiefling or Dragonborn stats.
Class: Warlock
Encounter power- 5 – You bind an oath so that it must be followed. If it is broken, the breaker receives bad luck. If this is used in combat, it is Immediate and may be used to automatically succeed at an Insight check.
Daily power- Add your level as a bonus to anything that is based on Charisma. This costs a number of motes equal to half of the bonus.
Races: Human and Half-Elf stats are saved for the Elemental-Blooded. No Halflings.

Snip lot of cool mechanical stuff^^...

Hy engibrand thanks for the feedback, I read your draft and I believe we have a different concept right from the begginning. You see I want litle divergence from the ruleset of 4th ediction as possible(to not have to use notes from house-rules all over the board) so instead of creating a new mechanic like you did whith the mote points I will try to use the mechanics and add some templates and powers here and there .But please giveme your opinion about those ^^

Races:

The default race in Creation is human, everyone is a human and exaltation seeks human hosts by default. However that doesnt mean that humans are the only mortal race.Below are some of the mortal races and thgeir analogue in a D&D game(if you DM permits you can play as a exalted of one those races^^).

Dragonborn=dragon kings
Eladrin= Spirits
Half-elf=HAlf-caste
Elf= god-blooded
dwarf= mountain-folk
tiefling= god-blooded(yozi touched)

Exaltation>

Exaltation seeks whort candidates, even the weak dragon blooded are chosen because of a quality that normal people dont posses. When chosen the exalted gains the following qualities:
-Long lives-the life span of a exalted is increased in a large scale, dragon blooded can live for centuries and celestial exalted milennia.However they dont suffer any penaltys related to age i n their atributes and powers(all the beneficts occur normally)

-increased resistances:All exalteds dont need to make checks to stabilize and are immune to mundane diseases and poisons.

-excellencies: all exalteds have a base power called excellencie. Its a at-will power that gives to the exalted a bonus equal to his/her entire level(instead of half) on tests of skills, atacks and resistances.But you have to choose what skill, atack or resistance your are giving the bonus, lasts just for a action.

This is the base exalted package, every single exalted have those powers but they are not limited by those : different exaltations give extra powers and abiilities.

ANIMA BANNER

Every time you use a power in a single scene, add a number of points (1 if is a at-will power, 3 if its a encounter power and 5 if its a daily power) to your anima pool; this means that your exalted are using so much energy that the excess is leaving the body in a form of aura...until it becomes gigantic and huge totemic display that can be seen in miles around the character.

at levels1-3: the caste marks shines a litle
at levels 4-7: the caste marks burns whith enough estrenght to iluminate everyhthing placed under it.
at levels 8-10: the character is surrounded by a radiant aura that iluminates like a lantern everything around it, stealth is impossible.
at levels 11-15: the character the aura of the character iluminates everything and ccan be seen in miles .
At level 16+: the character is surrounded by a totemic image of her self, this image(except to dragon bloodeds)represent the character and can be customized at will ^_^So you can have a idealistic monk have a gigantic buda as her banner and a vicious army killer a huge skull and so on.

The anima will fall ´´a level´´ for every 5 minutes the character dont use any power.

This is my initial draft. later I will post solars and magic circles in exalted^^
Any comments will be sure apreciated
