Spoilers from The Legacy below...

Anyone else think that Siege of Darkness would have been a perfect place to wrap things up at. Wulfgar is dead. Drizzt and Cattie-Brie go off adventuring by themselves. Bruenor is back in Icewind Dale ruling. Baenre is dead and the drow have been defeated. And Mithril Hall has finally reestablished itself. I think that ti'd be a great way to wrap up the Drizzt Saga.

I think that it would have been a fitting end. There was a few years gap between the release of Siege of Darkness & Passage to Dawn. I had assumed that the series was basically over at that point. I never actually considered Passage to Dawn to be part of the Legacy, Starless Night & Siege of Darkness "trilogy." It just never felt like it.

The Paths of Darkness series was certainly not my favorite bunch of Drizzt-related stories (I considered Passage to Dawn to be part of this set of novels rather than the former). The most entertaining was the fantastic Servant of the Shard which had little to do with Drizzt. I have already voiced my thoughts on Spine of the World so I won't even comment on it. Sea of Swords was weak compared earlier Drizzt books and the best parts of it weren't focused on Drizzt. The Silent Blade was a fun read and but felt a little odd with all the larger cast of characters.

The Hunter's Blades trilogy seems to be a step in the right direction for the characters right now. I look forward to reading more.

Entreri and Jarlaxle were the best part of The Silent Blade. Whenever the story would shift back to Drizzt/Wulfgar (Wulfy to a lesser extent) I'd get impatient to get back to the Entreri chapters. Also, Entreri's fight with the Battlemage was entirely too cool. :D

I would have liked to have seen the Legacy be the last book in the series. I'm not sure I ever really bought into Drizzt being worth all that effort that was expended by the Drow in later books. Legacy was a cool book, kinda a downer but I think it would have made a good end. But Silent Blade did have its moments, and you're right, that battle with the battlemage was awesome.
