How Would You Use This Photo?

I'm thinking either treants or it's the entrance to some sort of forest dungeon.

Lots of great ideas. What is that from anyway?

I would use that to represent a manifestation of the Green itself on the Prime Material Plane, taking control of a forest to speak to the PCs. (The Green is taken from Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved, where it's the force of life and energy, opposed by the Dark.)

Alternatively, it's the death site of the greatest ranger ever known, who was so steeped in magic that he lives on in the moss, his mind ranging over the trees and rocks and brush, guarding the entryway to the great Forest Primeval.

Looks like just another patch of land on C'thalk, third planet from Helios, neighbor of Eos, and seat of the Saurian Empire ...

... soon to be described in the upcoming Helios Rising for Dawning Star. :p

Seriously, cool picture. One of my favorite things is finding real world stuff that drives home just how not far our fantasy worlds are from our actual one. I just read an article about the discovery of monorchidic (sp?) beetles (i.e., one testicle). I didn't even know beetles had testicles!

Very cool picture. I see moss-covered, moldy-bones, skeletons wielding verdigris-covered, rusted swords, stalking between the twisted trees. During a ancient battle, they were a battalion that was slaughtered there by the forces of darkness. The evil of their death has twisted the land and kept them from resting peacefully.

Looks like a bog to me. As my brother said:

"We fought a tendriculos, but I couldn't tell what it looked like because it was covered in vegetation."
Me: "It IS the vegetation!"
"Oh."
