hp limits on Power Word

Storminator

First Post
I was looking at the Power Words the other day, and they say they affect those with fewer hit points than X. It doesn't say they affect those with CURRENT hp lower than X.

Does that mean once you have more hp than the limit of the spell the spell can never affect you?

I'm pretty sure it's always been current hit points, even in previous versions of the game. Thus PWK, for example, makes a great finisher. Knock the barbarian down to 50 hp, and then take him out with one spell.

Now they are presumably very, very long words...

I don't know how they would balance it, but I'd love to see Power-Words as effectively quickend spells... that was pretty much they used to be used in the past, it was their "schtick".

I've contemplated creating a "power word" feat which is a bit like quicken but with extra limitations and some extra benefits, but I've not been able to get anything reasonable sorted out yet. Power words are so *different* to anything else.
