{in english} "A pleasure... Gus." Gauntlet grasps Gus's hand in greeting. His movements are careful and calculated so as to avoid exerting painful pressure with his hands, but the strength held within the machinery bolted to Gauntlet's shoulders is obvious, just restrained.

Gauntlet hesitates a moment before inquiring further, "Your name... is being unusual. Sounds more like title or job description. What was previous job you are speaking of? (he asks politely) In Russia my family worked construction business. Not always easy in post-breakup of USSR, small business I mean."

While Gauntlet can't feel the strange lukewarm of Gus' hand, Gus' grasp is firm and steady, and he meets the immense Russian's gaze with orange eyes and a crook-toothed, friendly smile.

Speaking in English, Gus' accent is even more pronounced. It is almost Russian, but more a cartoon Russian accent than an actual one. 2 parts Boris Badenov, with 1 part of Lugosi's "Hungarian goulash" mixed in.

"Is very perceptive," Gus nods in agreement. "My name, like my voice, was product of sleeping children. Or sometimes half-awake. Truly, that part was specialty."

Gus watches Gauntlet's expression carefully.

"I was... night terror. Boogeyman, before... client convinced me to join waking world."

Gus shrugs. "I act all big bad, but was little girl in trouble. What could I do?"

Ron moves over to Scout and Marie "Forgive me, but I couldn't help overhearing ya. As far as I can tell we wait for someting to happen, then we're briefed and respond. At least, that's what happened when Gauntlet, Monkey Wrench and myself went out. "

Scout turns to face the short young man in dreadlocks. As he finishes speaking she wordlessly gestures to a nearby seat, indicating that he join them. "Please join us. ... I am Colonel Ulla-Maria Wallenius, but my colleagues call me Scout." She then looks directly at him and asks "May I ask for your name, and if it is not inappropriate, what it is that you do? I would learn what I can of those with whom I might end up working with."

Scout muses "So operations are coordinated from here. Do you know what degree of autonomity we operate with? That is, to whom do we answer to and to what extent are we limited when on an operation?"

She pauses a moment for Ron to reply and then continues "You earlier mentioned Gauntlet and Monkey Wrench, ... if it's not terribly rude or impolite may I ask what you know about them?"

Gauntlet seems a bit perplexed by Gus's explanation of his former "job."

"You were...nightmare? I did not know such things had life of their own. I am not knowing much about that kind of things. I mostly know how to run forklift, of course, these day, i kind of AM forklift, heh."

He releases Gus's hand and leans back in the sofa.

"So little girl brought you through to "this side" eh? Can you not go..."home"... if you wish?"
(Gauntlet seems to partly understand the alienation Gus might feel being so far out of his element)

Marie shrugged her shoulders. "No idea, I'm new here myself."

She nodded. "There's no 'rotating roster' or anything like that then? Anyone who's here more or less goes when needed? Seems a bit more chaotic then I was expecting."

Gus grins, obviously pleased that Gauntlet accepts his story. Plus, he likes the bit about the forklift.

"I am thinking my story is... unusual. But yes, dreams have sort of life, both inside and out of heads. I think." He squints in concentration. This is obviously steep intellectual terrain for Gus. "I... crossed threshold, though. Is forbidden thing for dreams, particularly specialist like myself." He sags a little bit at the thought. "I have not been able to return. I do not know why. Perhaps only way to dreams' world from this side is sleep... and I do not sleep."

He leans back in his chair, scratching his head. "Is punishment, maybe? Probably. Dream King, he is the hard butt."

"What about you, my friend?" Gus cocks his head as he regards Gauntlet. "You are called Gauntlet, I think I heard. Is this only name, or have you others?"

"I'm Ron...as to what I do..." he hesitates "I don't really do it, it does itself. But I can reflect or "echo" any attack against me...and those in a certain area...I am still learning how to control it. I can also Echo languages for a short time after I hear them, though never more then a sentence or two.

"As for operations we met with someone who sent us to Chicago, what we did in the field as you put it, was left up to us. That's Guantlet
Ron says, pointing at the Russian with the metal arms "And Monkey Wrench....well she's a Monkey."

He looks at Marie "I don't know about that, when we went out on our mission, there were very few of us...and not everyone had their papers processed."

Gauntlet frowns a bit as Gus relates his story about not being able to return home.

"Gauntlet is just name the Resolutes gave me when I joined them. Has to do with my hands and arms being machines, sort of like metal gloves from old suits of armor. Only, I cannot taking these off. My real name is Alexsander. Aleksander Zoya. Aleksander is supposed to be meaning something like "great one." Mother had high hopes for me, heheheh."

"So, there is a... world of dreams? And a king there? I had no idea such thing was possible. What is Dream King like?"

"Aleksander? Yes, is great name," Gus says without a hint of irony. "Has been around for... longer than self, I am thinking."

"As for Dream King, I have not seen in many years, so may have changed much. Dream persons, we are very fluid, yes? However, we know each other... in here," he says jabbing at his solar plexus. His hefty belly jiggles slightly in response. "How I remember Dream King is this. Very generous, but stern. Not a forgiver. Is very demanding kingdom, you see, plus contenders to throne. Makes person hard." Gus concentrates on his memories for a moment, squinting off into nothingness as he thinks. "Very tall," he declares finally, "With stars for eyes, and skin like clouds, and coat of souls and silk and time. He is very funny, though," he says, grinning. "Dream King usually speaks without mouth, but he is good at laughs."

Just when things seemed quiet...

The intercom cracks to life with the voice of a young girl " Attention: Six Resolute Volunteers are requested for a situation in Tokyo. Please report to Briefing Room D

OOC: This mission can be found under "The Tokyo Problem"
