Huh? No Dodge feat for a Fast Hero

ok - i find it a bit odd that while the fast hero gets Mobility as a class feat he doesn't get Dodge. Anyone else think this is odd?

They get too many good things as it is, in my opinion. Charles Ryan commented on something similar recently (not in the FAQ, will be soon) and essentially gave the same answer - they get too many good feats, so some prerequisites have to be done the hard way.

Technically, they already do, at first level. See the "Defense" column for Fast Heroes? They already get +2 to their Defense scores above and beyond all other classes, at all levels.

OK, i'll admit, maybe i'm just to used to the Fighter selection of feats from D&D, where you pretty much get the whole feat tree. I can completely understand there choices, i just found it odd, that's all.

Shadow, I'm completely behind you on not completely getting all of their choices. On the one hand, having some of the feats without the prerequisites for those feats seems strange.

On the other hand, though, it seems like a lot of time and thought went into the decisions of what to give and why -- maybe it's how many feats players will be getting in this system, and trying to make all those bonus feats at least a little direction-pointing rather than completely free. Or maybe they rationalized it as, "The Fast Hero has never had to learn to Dodge, since he already Dodges more effectively with his natural abilities. But if he DOES take the trouble to learn to Dodge, his natural abilities give him some additional powers along those lines." Namely, the followup feats.

Regardless, it seems like a lot of thought went into the decisions. I plan to try to play straight from the book for the first few sessions, until I figure out what's broken and what isn't...
