While war persists there will always be men and women to fight those wars. A fighter may be short on many things, but work is rarely one of them. Few also are the fighters that need to worry about a retirement plan, for their lives tend to be nasty, brutish and short.
Religion: Two deities are likely to figure prominently in a fighter's life - Sana, Goddess of Aggressive War and Slaughter; and Cuvanill, Goddess of Defensive War and Protection. Between these two most fighters make a choice. Then again, fighters tend to be among the more free of classes where religion is concerned, and there are many fighters who fight for no deity whatsoever. Also, many folks with strong religious beliefs tend to become paladins or clerics.
Background: Fighters tend to hail from military backgrounds. Many have already served in one or more wars, proven themselves, and become decorated. Some have found they have a real knack for it and would rather test their skills and courage becoming a legend. After all, it beats the hell out of simply guarding some fat lord's castle.
Organizations: Fighters tend to form corps of varying sizes. Also, most mercenary "adventuring" outfits are likely to be led by a fighter or at least largely composed of them. They hire out their muscle to a variety of tasks. Many fighters dream of coming into control of such a group or founding their own. Some of the most famous and infamous of these organizations are.
Trindal's Raiders is an equal opportunity destroyer. This outfit preys on the chaotic situation in Threndis, aiding a noble with the gold to pay their fee one week and attacking that same noble a month later. Their strength and skill is considerable and they've swung the balance of several battles in the region, but they have a reputation for being too easily bought. It was in reference to them that this phrase was coined: "the trouble with mercenaries is that if you can buy their loyalty, someone else can too."
Bulwarks Coaster: This trading company transports goods along a few key overland routes, with a focus on the Ultan - Londella route between Dalsundria and Altania. They will hire out guards to any other caravan for the right price.
Blackflag Fleet: This group of privateers is based in Altania and sporadically raids shipping throughout the waters surrounding Telzoa. Several members of the group have a rather high price on their head.
The Fools Which Follow: Led by a priest of Terix (hence the name), this group spends about as much time testing their luck as doing actual fighting. Like most "fighter" companies, this group has a sizable membership of other classes.
