Human preserverance racial feat

The rogue write up mentions this human only feat. What we know so far:

-Human only racial feat (the name is enough to tell us that)
-Suggested for the wily rogue (who uses charisma as one of his primary stats)
-Can be taken at first level.

So, what do you think it does, and do you think it builds forward into a chain of feats?

I think it could do one of the following:

- +1 to all defences
- +1 to AC
- Lets you re-roll a save once a day OR roll a 2d20 and choose the better result 1/day
- Same as above but the reroll can be done 1/encounter instead. I would prefer this, and would really show the toughness of humans.

Thoughts?

Really hard to say at this point. "Perseverance" doesn't suggest anything charismatic to me, but something more related to the will to succeed.

But I don't think there will be "feat chains" as we've seen them in 3E, or that they've been downplayed quite a bit. I think it's also been stated that feats won't typically add numeric bonuses anymore. A re-roll of some kind seems likely.

First off, it's PERSEVERANCE not PRESEVERANCE

To have a little bit of knowledge it's always good to take a look in the dictionary. But the problem is that the definition of perseverance is abstract: The act or habit of persevering. To have a better concept you have to look at the root of the word, which is persist in this case: To stay firmly in some course despite opposition or difficulties.

My guess is that it could have two kind of effect in a game:

1. dissuasion is less effective, so a +2 to Will save.
2. even if the odds are low you continue to combat, so a +2 to Morale. [I don't know if 3.0/3.5 have combat modifier for morale, I'm sure there's someone out there who can answer this one]

I did say "typically" ;)

I don't think you'll see many feats beyond that which add a bonus, just like I don't think you'll see the plethora of feats which gave AC bonuses in 3E.

I think it might be +2 to saves like in the pit fiend example. Saves might be a d20 roll to shrug off a continuing effect. Reroll a single save per encounter might work as well.

IIRC races and classes says that humans are all about dramatic recovery, not being tougher overall. So my guess is that feat makes healing surges more powerful.

That or make them easier to use, or to give more uses.

I can just envision humans being the roaches of 4E.

Dragon: "I've already killed you four times, WHY WON'T YOU DIE!?"

Dramatic recovery makes me think of shrugging off effects that call for a saving throw, like petrification and such. Maybe the feat gives them a +1 or +2 bonus on saving throws?
