D&D (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

Legend
So far, we know certain classic monsters are going to change monster types. My guess is the only humanoids will be NPC stat blocks. That said, I wonder what everything else will be.
I pulled a list of of all the humanoids in the first MM, eliminated NPCs and variants, and listed them below. A few we know. Buts lets try and guess what the others will be. Ones in CAPITALS are confirmed.

NOTE: This is not the thread to complain about the changes, its just to guess what they could be changed to.

The list:
Aarakocra
Bugbear - FEY
Bullywug -FEY
Deep gnome (svirfneblin)
Drow
Duergar
Flind - FIEND
Githyanki
Githzerai
Gnoll - FIEND
Goblin - FEY
Grimlock
Half-red dragon veteran -DRAGON
Hobgoblin - FEY
Jackalwere
Kenku
Kobold - DRAGON
Kuo-toa - ABBERATION
Lizardfolk
Merfolk
Orc
Orog
Quaggoth
Sahuagin
Thri-kreen
Troglodyte
Werebear
Wereboar
Wererat
Weretiger
Werewolf
Yuan-ti pureblood

Speculate away.

I could see the Yuan-Ti Pureblood, Grimlock, and Gith becoming Aberrations or Abominations, potentially.

The various anthropomorphic animal folks could get reassigned, but probably not.

Interesting question for me is I'd they have a chart for NPCs ro modify by Species, and if they sneak in any backdoor playable Species that way.

Gith were aberrations in the Planescape book, so it’s likely they will be in the Monster Manual. Thri-Kreen will probably be monstrosities, as they are in Spelljammer. I could see Lycanthropes becoming Monstrosities too. Merfolk I could see going several ways. Fey makes sense, as does elementals.

What @Levistus's_Leviathan said, plus...

Grimlocks seem likely to become Aberrations (like Kuo-Toa). Sahuagin perhaps as well. I could see Quaggoths and Troglodytes being moved there too.

Yuan-Ti might become Monstrosities instead of Aberrations (to match the other Yuan-ti). Others likely to become Monstrosities: Jackalweres (they're basically variant Lycanthropes). Other overtly animal-people like Thri-Kreen could also be moved into this category like Aarakocra, Kenku, and Lizardfolk. (Merfolk possibly as well.)

I'm skeptical that Deep Gnomes, Drow, Duergar, and Orcs will even exist as their own listings in 2024, I expect their archetypes to be generalized and merged into the larger NPC section. The exception might be Orogs, heavily reinvented to make them further from being just a variant Orc; but who knows what type they'd go with if so.

I think they’ll make it so they’re just generic NPC stat blocks that any species can be.
Yup. For example, the former Drow Priestess of Lolth and Orc Eye of Gruumsh could be repurposed into different types of NPC cleric.

EDIT: To clarify, I suspect they will remove the specific Lolth and Gruumsh connections, and make the archetypes usable for a wider range of deities.

I doubt that part. Maybe make it Lolthite and Gruumsh followers.
