It was a bit RBDM-like to have Roy recall the talisman, only to be unable to make the break DC.
Well, if he had thought of it before taking 5-6 rounds on little fluffy animals and useless potions.... :p

The final shot should have had the bag, critters and potions fall on him too. :D

Yes, exactly; Belkar asked the oracle if he will cause the death of Roy, Vaarsuvius, Miko, or Windstriker Miko's stupid horse, or the oracle...

A slight, but potentially significant difference in the actual question, there.

He was saving it for a real emergency. <coughbootycallcough> He may have an 18 Int but he is STILL a fighter with the priorities thereof. :)

Of course, I think that Rich nailed it again. We've all been there as players - something went wrong and the character is gonna die, so what do we do? Stop the action for 10 minutes as we pour over our entire equipment list looking for something that we missed. A magic item to give us that extra +1, or something with a miscellaneous power that can be creatively used, or anything really.

And, of course, we always start with the least important items and work our way up to blowing the more powerful ones.

So does anyone think having the planet pounded through the back of his thick skull will finally convince Roy to start listening to NPCs he's not related to?

I doubt it. It was a very small planet after all. :)

THAT'd be a Rat Bastard DM moment!

Actually, the more I think about it, I don't think the prophecy was fulfilled.

After all, Roy had an out. If he had taken Xykon's offer to set him down, he'd be alive now. (Presuming Xykon didn't set him down from 5,000 feet up, of course). So, no more blame for Belkar.

Having an out does not mean the prophesy goes unfulfilled. Only if the out gets used is the prophesy unfulfilled. Belkar was trying to get Roy to go to his death and he succeeded.

I'm guessing that the fall didn't actually do that much damage. His sword seems to have come through with no issues, sinking into the ground...so it likely wasn't much more than 40-ish points. (Assuming objects take half damage, and the sword's made out of starmetal, which = adamantine, IIRC) At their level, 40ish points really isn't that much damage.
Halve the damage then subtract hardness. A +5 Adamantite Longsword would have 56 Hit Points (6 for Adamantite Longsword, 50 for +5) and Hardness 30 (20 for Adamantite, 10 for +5). You'd have to do 172 damage to break one of those in one hit, and the absolute maximum (20 consecutive 6's!) damage from a fall is 120.

I suspect that Roy will be rezzed.

I hope so, anyway. He's probably my favorite character in the Order... though, honestly, I don't particularly like any of the main characters, oddly enough. (I usually have favorites, y'know?)
