Hunter and Marauder builds, seem cool, but confused

By the way, I absolutely LOVE the Hunter build. My favorite "trick" with him is to build a full-on Dexterity-based whirling Greatspear zone of control.

You start out at level 1 with a spear and a longbow, using your ability to switch between them as a free action (Bow for Twin Strike, spear for Fading Strike). You take Hunting Spear Style to add Slow to Fading Strike, and you take some of the Dexterity-based melee encounter attack powers (there's one per level, they're decent). You take Greatspear proficiency.

Eventually, you buy yourself a Hungry Greatspear, which has the property that it can be used as a ranged weapon (heavy thrown, 10/20). Now you ditch your bow and just use Twin Strike to throw a tree trunk at people twice per round.

Also, multiclass into Fighter (my preference is Battlefield Awareness).

At Paragon, you take Polearm Momentum, Polearm Gamble, etc. plus a Slide enhancer like Rushing Cleats -- and then, on an OA (which people provoke just for walking up to you), you can slide a target 2 squares, make it prone, and then shift 1 away. Since you can poke people from 2 squares away AND you are powerful in ranged combat, you can pretty much choose your battles -- and being able to comfortably handle melee chargers means you can make VERY effective use of your Prime Shot.

Cheers, -- N
