I am officially a wimp

bleh. the Ring isn't all that scary, and the pacing is kinda wonky at times. but the end? now THAT part's scary:):):)hat scene at the end makes it all worthwhile! you gotta tough it out! try turning the lights on, or finding someone who's arm you can latch onto and cut of their circulation to aid in the watching.

once you're done with that, see if Darkness Falls is still playing near you. :D

Don't worry Enchantress. You're not half as wimp as some people I know. I remember people that are still scared watching Gremlins. ;)

The scene with the mommy and the little boy towards the end was so chilling that it still gives me goosebumps, if you only made it half way then you haven't seen anything yet, I won't spoil anything for you, just make the effort to get all the way through it you won't regret it, the last half of the movie is really really great. Scary movies normally don't bother me, this one did.

I've got to disagree with a couple of the posters here. I thought The Ring was an enjoyable horror film (although I didn't think it was actually scary) all the way until the very end, which I thought was horribly done. Suspense and a lack of knowledge is always much better at creating fear. When you can see what's causing it, then it's just not the same, IMO.

And Enchantress, you're not the only one. I know people who almost cried when they saw the film.

Are you talkin' 'bout the original or US version?

The original is one of the scariest movies I've seen (and when I say 'scary' I mean exciting and thrilling, there are only three things that have ever really scared me on TV/cinema: Ghostbusters (hey, I was four), Superman III (five) and the News, which scare me on a daily basis).

The US version was just kinda dull. Although, I very likely might have liked it more if I hadn't seen the US version first.

Creepy

Heya:

I left the threatre halfway through The Ring. Not so much because it was scary (although parts were), but because it was creepy. I knew that if I didn't leave, the images would stick with me for a long time (my darn brain holds on to certain things) and I certainly don't need that. ;)

This reminds me of a movie starring Nicholas Cage from a few years ago called "8mm", I think. The tag line for that movie was "Some things you see can't be unseen." Hey, thanks for the warning, I'll pass on the movie.

Darkness Falls, on the other hand, was a _ton_ of fun. It was enjoyable experiencing some of the early "scary" bits, and then examining the logic and behavior later on. For example (very slight spoiler), about 75% of the way through the movie, a second nurse joins the group. All she'd have had to do was say, "Um, good luck guys, I think I'll head back the way I came.", cover her eyes, and slowly and carefully go back the way she came and she'd have been _100%_ safe. Also, I liked when they were jumping down the stairs in groups. Funny stuff.

Take care,

Seri and I went to see The Ring last halloween with friends. We ended up watching it from behind seri's witch hat (hey, it's ok if you only see the top left hand corner, right?) while the other couple with us made out.

*sigh*

I didn't anyone else's responses to the original poster but I now know I have to own this movie without having seen it.

It finally sounds like a 'horror' movie that is actually scary! What a concept! ;)
