I Bopped Him!

Does anyone remember the promotional tape that TSR put out just before releasing one of their intro sets?

It had some guy doing an "evil" Dungeon Master voice, and a group of really lame sounding "kids" starting a D&D game after one of them saw his older brother playing and "it looked like a blast..."

One side was the game session, the other was supposed to be their imagination.

Notable quotes:

Great Shot Cleric! I Bopped him!

Rub this ointment upon your limbs, the bugs will bother you no longer.

Old man! What are you doing in this temple of evil...

I am the last priest kind of Detigmare temple...

That's great! I love the retro stuff. Here's some really funny lines from some WotC promotional tape recently...seems they haven't got any better with time!

"Ze game will remain da same!"

"I grapple the troll"...and the look of terror on the DM's face as he can't comphrehend the reason for the action or the rules to resolve it.

Yeah... Although I think the current one is SLIGHTLY better...

I remember the tape above just showed up in my mailbox one day. It was ina manila bubble wrap envelope. No real markings of any kind, or any other promotional material to indicate what it was.

I was really confused. Also, as to why they sent it to me, as my dragon subscription had run out and I hadn't renewed it.

An old favorite of mine was also the TSR promotional tape for the Dragonstrike boardgame that oddly mimicked D&D play for the mentally challanged. I still whip that out now and then to watch my player's eyes and ears bleed.

Hey, in case anyone is interested, here it is:

Lordy, lordy this is so damningly hilarious!

Oh, god, I remember those...

"Now you're working together!" is one of the few times I can honestly use the word "declaim" instead of "said" outside of a theatre.

Derisive howls of laughter were the near universal reaction when TSR first showed that video at that year's GenCon... what was worse was that they'd somehow conned the Hilton into including it as part of the "GenCon promotional video" that ran 24 hours a day on the in-house TV channel.

I so remember that... Or at least I remember when they were flauting it in Dragon, and how they made a scorion centaur guy thing... It was like the height of computer animation. :p

If I rememebr right it's a bunch of TSR employees in banquet scene right?

The thief has nice legs though.

I think we can all agree on that.

Since you didn't die 7 days later, I assume you showed it to someone else.
