I can fly! Now if only I knew how...

First Post
I'm soon to be playing a character with wings and the capacity for flight. However, I can't find detailed rules for flying and arial combat in any of the corebooks.

Where can I find the rules? Have there been other threads someone could reference with good information on flying in DnD? What kinds of feats can I find, revolving around flying?

I want to develop my understanding of these rules to the point where having a flying PC in my game isn't disruptive

Thank you in advance.

You can also find flying rules in the SRD in "Carrying and Exploration" and "Monster Feats."

I recommend you get "Fly-By Attack" if you are a spell caster or use ranged weapons (since you can move and take a standrad action in the middle, but do not avoid the AoO from movement). The Spring Attack feat would be nice also.

Why would you need Spring Attack if you had Flyby Attack?

Thank you for the prompt answers!

I looked on Page 20 in the DMG, and was disapointed with the information I found. It is very incomplete.
Fly-by attack looks very good indeed, and I suspect I'll be taking it before long. Where can Improved Fly-by attack be found?
Pity I don't have the Draconomicon or any Dragonlance books. Maybe I can pester a friend into letting me borrow one.

I seem to remember seeing much more complete rules for arial combat in a core book. Am I simply mistaken? Were there rules in 3.0, but not in 3.5?

I also seem to recall a feat that let you improve your maneuverability in flight. Does this feat exist in 3.5? (It'd be much better than just taking the Hover feat. Stupid Average maneuverability.)

Improved Fly-By is in a couple of places, but the latest version that I know of is in the 3.5 Update Booklet that WotC put on the website when 3.5 came out...

Not that it has changed much, but that's a nice place to find it.

It combines the No-AoO's of Spring Attack with any standard action during your move of flyby.

If you're a flying caster, it's great.
