I cheated last game session

If you feel guilty enough to post here, you won't feel good playing with that group again until you admit it to them and accept the consequences. The sooner you admit it, the sooner you can move on. The longer you wait, the more it will gnaw at you. If you've enjoyed playing with that group up until now, you may wish to handle this before it becomes a bigger deal than it needs to be.

I must admit that I totally agree with Mark on this one. Nip it in the bud while it is small and before it has the possibility to become a "habit". Trees are much easier to uproot when they are saplings. ;)

You're an interesting person Elf Witch ... I was kinda surprised that you posted such a post in here. Not offended or scandalized or what not ... just surprised. Especially after the long thing with the cat familiar. Hmm. Go figure. Well ... all the more reason to make sure things are on the "up and up" with the group, ey what?

Good luck!

I know just because I really do feel that he did a lot wrong it does not make it any easier for me knowing I cheated.

This group is not just gaming buddies we are good friends that kind you call to help you move or whose house you go to to evacuate from a hurricane. We do more than just game.

I guess this is one of the issues I really don't want to hurt the DMs feelings. He is a great guy and I know right now he has some unhappy issues at home. He has got a lot of stress dealing with a troubled mentally ill teenager and gaming is his escape it is what keeps him sane.

I don't want to turn the game into one more stressful thing.

Thanks I was really surprised at myself for what I did. I have played characters that I have loved and did not want them to die and I never ever fudged a roll or lied about my hit points.

I am not attached to this character and I wouldn't care if it died so that even makes it worse to for what I did. I can't justify it I did it out of being angry.

I guess confessing is the right thing to do but I am also afraid that it might change our gaming relentionship.

It sounds like the DM either rolled really, really badly for the Sorcerer or he had absolutely no idea as to how to play a Sorcerer effectively. Unless there was some lucky rolls and fantastic tactics by the PC's you shouldn't have been able to take him down. The level difference is just too high. It sounds like the DM is very inexperienced, at least at running a 3.x D&D game. I would suggest talking to him about the game as a group because it could all end in tears otherwise.

I'm more concerned that a party of level 2-3 mangaed to capture a level ~14 mage in the first place.....And a level ~14 mage who had only Magic Missle, fireball, and Teleport preped???? And with just that and a few ranks in Concentration for combat casting he should have killed all of you....

The only reason we were able to take him down was that he failed a will save on a compulsion spell (I was not in the room so I am not sure what spell was used )but I do know he rolled a 1 for his will save. That gaves us the chance to bind him.

This was after he has almost killed us with a fireball. If we had, had to fight him he would have killed us. Which is why I am not sure why he was even there to begin with.

I got the first shot at him and fired an arrow at his back and hit him before he saw us and the DMlooked a little angry he even made a comment about my alingment. My roomate thinks that maybe he was not a bad guy and we made him one by attacking him. The DM is famous for having NPC react to how we treat them.

The thing is we knew our friends were in danger and we heard someone say as we were coming up out if the sewers "Die you Cyrean lovers" so I just assumed he was one of the bad guys.

You gave up an action point, plus the odds were not really that fair. Moving 90 feet then getting a full attack? At that point the DM's cheating becomes rather clear, and if u fudge 2 HP not a big deal.

Did you say you fought a lvl 13 wizard and won? I might have misread but I thought u said you guys are level 2-3. Maybe I missed something there.

Yes we fought a 13 level wizard/assassin and we won only because we got lucky and he failed a will save from a compulsion spell and was grapppled by our fighter where he rolled another 1 on his escape artist and she was able to pin him and we were able to get him manacled and gaged.

His first attack nearly killed the entire party when he hit us with a fireball if we had not made our saves we would have taken more damage than any of had hit points. If he had thrown anymore spells at that time he would have killed all of us.

My roommate who is also in the game and I were talking about this today and we have made a decision that from now on any mage gets it no surrender no second chances he gets his throat slit.

Maybe you should draw up a table and roll to see how you kill him. It only seems fair. ;)

I am dming again this Sunday and I am pondering the level of certain npcs. It suits everyone that I play these npcs within the capabilities they possess and all this coupled with a reasonable (but daring) sense of self preservation. So I can't empathise with a dm who puts out some tough guy who fights within his powers. Such a figure is greatly out of the norm - then again if some foreshadowing was done and background event/story reinforcing, it could come across as legitimately exceptional. However that is generally sort of breaking the social contract, so a bit of :):):) for tat is not unforgivable. However, after all that, it does seem that openly discussing the likes & dislikes of the current game is in order.
