I Died!!!!!!

Just for clarities sake.. did your Sorceress go 1v1 against a dragon? If so, what level dragon and what level was your char?

DC

It was Creeping Death, Daugauth. The guy that, at the time before D&Dmg was released, (or the epic level handbook) probably could have challenged fifty different spellcasters and come out on top.

Ha Ha Ha

I not only killed her sorceress, but I also killed the parties Arcane Archer. Bwuhahahaha!!!! :) I forgot to do this, but I will do it from now on, all their equipment that is exposed to the acid will need to make a save or be destroyed. :) I love DM'ing 3e.

No one give any spoilers please. Party of 4, all 10th level. Barbarian, Cleric, Sorceress and Arcane Archer. Running through Monte Cook's Beyond the Veil. First Meeting with the Black Dragon in the swamp. Marching order:

A
S
C
B

Then the dragon appears:
A
S
C
B

D

Suprise round, all but the barbarian failed their saves and took 9 points of damage and permanently lost 3 points of Charisma.

First round. Sorceress casts fire ball, it passes through the dragon and causes him no harm. Cleric chooses to disbelieve, of course it fails. Dragon breathes acid. All his ducks were lined up in a row. This is when the Archer and Sorceress died. Everyone failed their save and took 39 points of damage. I think both the Sorceress and Arcane Archer's hp total is less than 39. The barbarian rages and attacks, next round the dragon leaves.

The cleric has restoration and raise dead so I'm not worried. I'm happy that I got to use my dragon mini even though it is larger than the dragon in the module. All in all it was a good night.

Now THAT's a rough DM! :)

I am curious as to why, if you don't mind revealing this. If it's too spoiler-y, I would love to hear the reason after it's all done.

Spoiler stuff

I'll let Techno, the parties cleric, and Enchantress post everything that they know. I will not give any detailes until the module is completed.

Henry I just sent you an email explaining the whys.

Enchantress:
Sorry to hear about your character. This time around, create a gnome PC...they're harder to kill than characters of other standard races, for no discernible reason. I just know that it's true: gnome = tough to kill. Also, they get on the DM's nerves ;).

Otherwise, sounds like a wicked (yet cool) encounter.

Are you still running that RttToEE for your group? You must have some good PC deaths from that, I imagine. ;)

Yes I am, and yes I do. But the PC death toll has remained pretty sane (all things considered) for two reasons:

1) The characters lean a bit towards the munchkin edge of life's spectrum, and they're all a level or two higher than what's recommended for the sections of the module being traversed.
2) I'm lulling them into a false sense of security right now ;).

As for the gnome comment, though, it's true. I ran a gnome (the only one I've ever roleplayed) through some pretty tough adventures with high mortality rates, and he just couldn't die. Maybe it was luck. Maybe I did a masterful job of utilizing the resources about him. Maybe the DM felt sorry for me playing a gnome. Whatever it was -- he was invincible I tell you!!!

I remember my first monster ever killed and my first character death, back when I was a yewt!

My first monster ever killed in D&D with a giant Gar in an underground small river, I killed it with a spear. Silverleaf was later killed by the 500 bugbears in the 10x10 room.

Ahhh, times were so much simpler in the day, with the 500gp and 500xp that went with it.

I remember my first (and, ironically, only) character death. The group was playing through an underdark campaign, and we ran into a dragon. The party all swarmed up front to try and attack it, while I stood back and sang, upping their attacks. Low and behold, when they actually managed to hit the "dragon", it was shown to be an illusion. Guess where the real dragon was.
As you may expect, I let forth a string of explatives, spun around, attacked, and promptly died (I figured I was dead anyways, so why not?). All but two of the group died in that encounter, but I was the first.

I haven't really had a character die yet...

I'm usually a DM, so that probably has a lot to do with it...

Wonder how long I can keep this going. :)
