I Died!!!!!!

I remember my first character death, it happened about five minutes into my first game. My 1 hp wizard died in the first round of my first combat, by the first kobold I ever encountered. It was a day of firsts! :)

Hey, the same thing happened to my first character! She was a mage with 2 HP and was carried off by 2 kobolds after one knocked her out in the first round of the first battle. Ah, the memories. :p

Ok, first of all I would like to say that I do not like creepingdeath very much at the moment.
And secondly that I would love to play with you too Terraism;)
And creepingdeath needs to stop gloating or I'm not gonna be very charismatic sorceress when I'm revived!

Gloating...

Ah poohey, Enchantress told me she was posting this thread and I told her I was going to reply the way I did. It's not gloating, it's teasing and done in jest. Second, as far as her charisma is concerned, the party's cleric can cast restore which will bring her charisma back to its original value. The only thing she and the Arcane Archer suffers is a level loss. No big deal. This is just a one shot adventure so we can all experiment with 10th level characters and so that I can run this module and use my black dragon mini. In another campaign Techno is the DM, so in this campaign I asked them to create 10th level pcs that were of a different race or class than what they were used too. I wanted us to explore the options a bit.

We are all enjoying this experience. They seem to like playing this high. We got to use speak with the dead, and the spell that lets the cleric as 1 yes/no question per level to his god. That was fun. Enchantress's character messed up 2 of the 3 trolls they met earlier. I tried to let each of the characters shine before this planned encounter. I do not and did not and will not pull any punches. The game looses its thrill if you know you won't die.

Enchantress I can relate to your feelings,

a few times that a character have died I have felt like moping.

Just as a counter-point wait until your GM hands you a sheet with several characters stappled to it. When one dies you rip one off and continue with the next. That was a high turn over one shot adventure :P

Don't insult me.....

Just one question - what's the charisma loss to? Is it some kind of warped "charisma=good looks and good looks are destroyed by acid" logic?

Not at all. There is a good in game reason for this. If you do not have "Beyond the Veil" by Monte Cook check it out. It's a good module. Basically in the suprise round the black dragon appeared in front of them and gazed at them. Everyone had to make a save or lose 2d10 points of damage and 1d4 points or charisma. I rolled a total of 9 and then I rolled a 3. Three out of four party members failed their saves. I can not give anymore information than this. I rolled in front of everyone I told them what was going on. Three out of the four are relatively new to the game so I do not want to come right out and say what it is. I want them to figure it out.

When I started playing D&D back in the early 80's. I had a DM that just described what we fought. I was floored. It was a very creative adventure against a bunch of unknown creatures. It was all new and I was on a fantasy high for the next several days. Later I had another DM that ran me through an adventure and it was like "you enter a room and see two kobolds." It wasn't as exciting as my first adventure. It wasn't until much later that I found out both DM's ran me through Keep on the Borderlands. (When I say me, I mean me and my friends.)

I want to describe what they see and try to submerse them into the world. Somethings that they have fought before and can identify I just name, but all they know about this dragon is that it is black, spits acid, appeared out of no where, disappeared without a trace, called itself Storemere, and a few other things that I'll let them try to remember.

Non-spoiler hint: the dragon has one of the templates in the MM.
