How did you manage to tear your ACL in the first place? It is a semi-common sporting injury here in Australia. Unfortunately it normally stops you from playing sports for about 12 months. Thankfully I haven't torn an ACL to date. Touch wood.

It's a very common injury here in the States, too, and generally keeps people out of commission for about 12 months also. Even the super sports stars who have a bevy of physical trainers and doctors at their beck and call can expect at least 8 months of enforced rest. So, Ryan, don't worry about it, do what the doctors tell you, and don't push it.

The injury is also more common among women than men. :D

Ayup. It's a not-uncommon injury in football, and almost always results in that player missing the rest of that season, and often not yet being back to full speed by the beginning of the next season.
