I hate Chaotic Neutral

Chaotic/Neutral
Values freedom above niceness, but doesn't get any great kick from being nasty. Generally a bit of a loony, and when played by a munchkin, a selfish little bastard. When the GM notices, the character will be redefined as Chaotic/Evil, but a bit of fast-talking - "I'm only evil when it suits me" - can keep the Neutral part of the label in place for years.
Munchkin Potential: 7/10

Um, as I see it, you were the one who started hurling the vitriol.

Starting posts with "um" now? Didn't you used to hate catty people who did that? Just look at what this thread is doing to you, Psi. I don't like it!

/me scratches head.

You can't be serious, can you?

I'm not about to pop a vein in my forehead, if that's what you are wondering. "Um" in this context is shorthand for "I am not to clear what is going on here, but this is how I perceive it:"

If you prefer, substitute "Huh?"

Games with a greater than 50% ratio of CN individualists run a bit like herding cats.

This could be part of the issue. If directionless characters are causing a problem, would it be against your style of play to make those without direction define the direction?

"Okay, you don't want to go rescue the princess. What do you want to do? Be active. I'll DM to your character."

In other words, don't try to herd the cats -- let them explore, and follow them around.

I've never had a big problem with it. I'm actualy playing one now, who has a strong sense of "Family" (Close knit caravan comunity), love of life, freedom, and the fact that he can choose to do or be wherever he wants. He seeks adventure because he finds the danger fun. If he helps people, great. If he hurts them, well, hopefully he did it to gain something, and didn't hurt them too bad. But he's not a galavanting sociopath, and has no problems working in a team if it's what is suitable for the time.

I don't particularly care for allignment in general, and tend to let them be loose, but I always ask for a character that is willing and able to play as a team most of the time, and won't be disruptive.

Right. Selfishness is a trait of Evil.

He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn't strive to protect others' freedom...
Looks to me like it's also a trait of CN.

as I have already amplified (3x now, I think), I beleive CN is a symptom; the player attitude is the problem.
What do you think of the idea of providing modified, tighter alignment descriptions for this campaign? Do you think this could be used effectively here?

For the most part, I feel the same way. It gets even worse when the rest of the party has good alignments, and the sole CN character is the resident sociopath...

Yet I find it hliarious in Order of the Stick

I am considering declaring a moratorium on it. Seriously.

I did just that. I declared a moratorium on Chaotic Neutral nearly 20 years ago.

Damn good thing too. It's an alignment refuge for those who don't want to roleplay and just want to do whatever they want without any consequences - ever. It's CE masquerading as something legitimate.

Forget it. Not in my game.

I'm sure in some other groups it's tolerable. Fill yer boots. It isn't for me. I nerfed it and I'm deliriously happy I did.

I think it's a trait of evil and that neutral (unless you have the true neutral balance fanatics) has no inherent traits, but rather inherits traits from both good and evil, which are somewhat weaker than they are for the more extreme alignments.

I definitely see anything like that on the good-evil axis, not the lawful-chaotic axis.
