Just a rant:
I got back from FLGS tonight after (against my better judgement) trying a session in an ancient Greek themed D&D game -- talk about disaster
A few weeks ago I was DMing for the same group when after a few attempts to change the schedule (work related) they decided to dump me as DM (without wanring I might add)
I decided to forgive the slight and give the game a chance
After assembling the mucho stupid and incoherent party (Dwarf Fire and War Priest, Elf Expert/Time Cleric, Courtesan, Bard (a decent character) Wizard, Son of Hades Ranger (a very annoying character) and a Warlock (me) then listening to a pointless lecture on all the bad stuff the gods would do to us for major blasphemys we started the adventure --
The basic adventure was kind of dul (I don't like starting at level 2) l but I played along.
After an encounter with some crocs (which was fine) the DM decided arbitarily slings don't get strength added, Burning Hands doesn't work as per the rules and to ignore the grapple rules for the PC-- basically he wanted "extend his story" a bit rather than put up with the rules
I could have tolerated this IF he had given us a sheet of changes up front or warned us that ignoring the rules was something he was fond of doing -- I don't know about ya'll here but part of the reason I play D&D is to master the rules and have fun with them -- arbitrary changes just aren't fair or justfied with prior warning --
Secondly I have been chewed out horribly for rules mistakes I have made when I run -- It seems like a double standard which is not acceptable
After this I threw down my dice and left the game -- I don't need this kind of crap frankly -- either wanr me up fron you are playing fast and loose with the rules or play by the book dammit
