I have no book and I must buy!

Okay, here's the deal:

BCD print is out (for you code heads, that's Beyond Countless Doorways, not Binary Coded Decimal). But after Amazon or BAMM discount, it would come below the free shipping threshold.

And I would hate to spend money on shipping if I could be spending it on gaming product instead.

So what other recent book out there should I buy? I am currently considering Races of Stone or Frostburn, but am unconvinced I'll have a use for either soon. I already have MMIII. I might consider picking up some titles missing from my SL collection, like Vigil Watch: Asaathi or Wizards, Sorcerers, and Bards.

So what do you think. Convince me about which book I am missing out on (that is available at BAMM or Amazon... I considered IKCG, but it's not there!) I already have most Green Ronin and Malhavoc titles.

Grim Tales!!

If you want a true alternate player's handbook and a refreshing d20 system, check it out. I got mine on Amazon. Even if you aren't playing in or planning to run a low-magic campaign, it's still a great resource. You're bound to grab a couple of ideas from it.

The big problem will be that Psion has a crap load of books; Grimm Tales being one of them.

Edge of Infinity, its the scarred lands planar book. It's done like the Book of Planes by Mongoose which I believe you have and liked. It does offer new planes but some of the old basics as well (elemental, astral, shadow, etc). The new ones are close enough to the planscape versions as the Book of Planes' are. While it doesn't have the rules for creating planes the Book of Planes does, the set up of the book is very similar, and also similar to the old planscape sets. Each plane has a history, places, and all sorts of good information. Sure a lot is scarred lands specific but like most scarred ;lands books it is easy to use else where.

True, which is why I empasized primarily recent books.

Hmmm. I'm not feeling a whole lot of need for more planar books. Maybe.

Races of Stone is fairly subpar in my opinion. If you're not trying "to collect 'em all", I'd steer clear of it.

Serpent Kingdoms is good. I don't even run FR anymore but I still think it was a worthwhile purchase because it was a good read. But if you're looking for something that you'll actually use, it may or may not fit your bill. I'd definately use it in a FR game, but as it stands it's more like loose inspiration material to me.

Hey Psion,

try Libris Mortis, it should be out pretty soon. Probably will be able to order it from Amazon in due time. Throw it in with BCD. Also check and see if CSIO is going to be at Amazon, I bet it will as it has the S&S label on it...

Aaron.

I'm of the "got Hammer & Helm and don't see you beatin' it" mentality.

Serpent Kingdoms is good.

Got Serpent Kingdoms. ;)

I will be getting Libris Mortis, on the faith that it will be as good as Draconomicon (knocks on wood.) And I do have the PDF of BCD. So perhaps I should just bide my time...

...but I don't wanna. :( ;)

Edit: Can I just say how much this pic rocks:

Well, if you're not wedded to D&D, Mutants and Masterminds is the smartest book I've seen in ages, from a game-design perspective.

I spent a week making up characters just for a hoot. (It takes 5 minutes to make up a character, but the variations are infinite and fascinating).

best,

Carpe
