I just got D20 Future and I love it! [hugs his copy]

Does d20 Future incorporate any system for multiple types of damage, like Spycraft's vitality and wounds, or Alternity's stun, fatigue, wounds, and mortal?
no, it's a d20 Modern supplement and uses d20 Modern's combat rules.

Now, I don't mind that you don't like the book, since everyone's entitled to their opinion, but you may want to reconsider statements like that. It's a pretty big insult to say that something I worked so hard on was plagiarized. I can assure you there was no copying and pasting involved.

Either you copied it or you're psychic because the descriptions are nearly word for word identical between the two books. And honestly, that's not the part I really care about; in fact, I think using the Star Frontiers write-ups for the Star Frontiers races is a good thing (not to mention both books are owned by WotC, so it's not plagiarizing). The issue I have is that you obviously didn't read those descriptions or did and decided to screw up the game stats anyway.

Could you give some examples of these third party books? I'm just getting into the Modern/Future genres, so recommendations would be appreciated!

In addition to the ones kingpaul mentioned, there's also Factory, Dragonstar, and OGL Cybernet just off the top of my head.

I like Blood & Space from what I've seen of it - with prices for maintenence and details of power usage -- but I'm trying to convert old modules here, and the equivalents are hard to suss out between Alternity and Blood & Space, whereas d20 Future seems to have such conversions in mind. Unfortunately, it looks like d20 Star Wars is also not quite compatible, not just because of the metric issue but because the map movement rates appear to be based on different concepts -- the Star Wars map movement rates are higher for smaller ships and lower for larger ones compared to what you get in d20 Future, presumably because in the d20 Star Wars system turning costs movement. So I can't convert between the two on the relatively easy basis of the 3x factor between meters and feet. I do like the more detailed combat system, but I'm not sure the level of detail is necessarily worth the extra trouble. Yet, without it, I feel like I'll need to be throwing down navhazzards just to justify why the ships would even bother to fly around. In the Star Wars system, standing still causes your defense to suffer, but I'm not seeing that in d20 Future.

Hmmmm. No offense, but I just got D20 Future today, and a couple of the Star Frontiers races aren't quite true to the original descriptions/stat modifiers.

Yazirians in SF were smarter than average and had better reflexes/ dexterity but weaker physically. In D20 Future, they are dumber than average and less charismatic. They are at least quicker (+2 dexterity).

Vrusk in SF were weaker than average but quicker (better reflexes). In D20 Future, they are weaker, but are also smarter and more wise. It also mentions some weird things about their hands not being able to use non-specially made weapons. In SF, they were not only ambidextrous, their hands were pretty much like human hands, except, instead of a pinky, there was another thumb. And they could spread their fingers farther apart. So, they should be able to use anything pretty darn well.

While his tone might have been a bit out of line, I think he has a legitmate beef/point. It does seem like they were statted without the original description having been read, or at least they had a different idea of what they were than the original versions...

Hmm, it sounds like I am going to have to rewrite the SF races for myself then. I've been putting it off since I figured there is no way they would try to hit it inaccurately, but this seems suspect. It does seriously curb my enthusiasm for picking up D20 Future to hear that.

However, if Moridin would like to explain the thinking on the changes, I would be happy to hear them. Perhaps there is a design decision in there that I haven't considered myself.

This is silly, and not a little bit rude to Moridin.

If you want Star Frontiers the way Star Frontiers was intended, go get it for free at the Star Frontiers site.

If you're not interested in seeing a slightly different take on that universe, with what are obviously an homage to the original races (nothing more), then don't buy D20 Future and stop whining about it.

But why in Eris' name would you want to pay for the same dang information...again?!

It does not make sense. Piss on someone else's parade, ya dorks.

Hrm, I wasn't big into sci-fi when Star Frontiers was out, so they'll all be brand spanking new to me.

I still love you, Moridin. ;)

What I DON'T love is the fact that distro is so horribly FUBAR in the south-east. I was looking at houses in Mobile and Pensacola (on the gulf) and decided to take the time out to stop at a few stores and, finding nothing, calling EVERYBODY in the area that might have it. Nobody had it. Everybody said they'd have it in four to five weeks, if I'd like to pre-order it. If the warehouse is in Tenessee, how on earth does it take 4+ weeks longer to get 1-2 states away?

They FINALLY were able to get the 2nd printing of Mutants and Masterminds, after I'd already decided to go with another product. So, crappy distro in the SE cost at least one sale.

I was rude and I apologize. I feel my complaint still stands, but how I voiced it was out of line. I'm sorry about that, Moradin. And again, I am not accusing you of plagiarism or even implying it.
