As I recall the male medusa (the maedar) back in 2e was immune to petrification. I don't know if it was ever brought back in 3e or any other subsequent edition.

Most likely the same way that praying mantises do: they sneak around back and hope not to be noticed. Then they die.

The number of male Medusa statues in a female Medusa's layer is a measure of her hotness. Some of the less attractive ones probably pay interior decorators to help them fake it.
