I Just Realized What Practiced Spellcaster is Really For

Dude, it's for monster characters.

So if you want to play an ogre mage wizard, for instance, you give him this feat and you're almost caught up with his level adjustment as far as caster level goes (welllll... gettin' there, anyhow).

Otherwise- pointing to SR as a big problem at mid levels for lesser casters- your ogre mage sor 1 (EL 13) has +1 to penetrate. The average CR 13 creature with SR has about a 23- you can't succeed. With PS, you make that a +5... still a longshot, but not hopeless... and if you also take Spell Penetration... you at least have a chance.

Just thought I'd share. :)

You're an evil person. :)

Mind you, I'd like to know if the Ogre Magi's caster level of 9 (for its spell-like abilities) stacks with its Sorcerer Levels - I'm away from my books at the moment so I can't remember.

Cheers!

It doesn't.

Practised Spellcaster is also nice for rangers, paladins and others with casterlevel=half their class level...

Frankly, I think an Ogre Mage wizard is going to need the next two feats in that chain: Really Practised Spellcaster and Awfully Practised Spellcaster, as well as the Epic feat Can't Get Any More Practised Than This Spellcaster.

In the interim, he might be better off sticking to Conjuration spells that don't allow SR.

Hey, in my house rules, caster level is a function of HD, like BAB and saves, so I don't need this. :]

Well IMC the fighter 4/cleric11 took it as did the arcane trickster and the druid shifter and it has made a huge difference in their spells. Only my eldritch knight and the party paladin have not acquired it.

So I'd say multiclass casters of any kind, whether with monster racial HD or other class levels, find it attractive for the most part.
