I killed Orcus!

Uh oh, Nightfall is not gonna be happy about that.

You're right. I'm not. However I just have to assume this was a ruse on the part of Orcus and that they didn't kill him, just an aspect. ESPECIALLY not on Thantos. :p

Also, what CR was Orcus? How could a group of 14th level characters have any hope of getting near him, let alone thinking they had a chance of fighting him?

That's why I don't believe it.

Sapphire goddess my foot. Orcus just grew tired and let them think they won. :p

Scottsdale!?!

Well, I'm gonna wait until about July and then I'm gonna ask you just how much you're enjoying the weather down there, ...then I'm just gonna cackle with glee.

PJ, has the right idea. Equal Rites for all. What's a little human sacrifice among friends anyway.
During July, I won't be at home too much. July is my dads busiest month for out of city conferences and being that I am his secretary, he finds it useful that I go along with him. And during September 'll be gone for a week while I vaction with my parents in Texas. ;)

and yes I saw that episode of The Twilight Zone. :]

More likely the Aspect of an Aspect ;)

And even if the Goddess succeded and killed Orcus (unlikely as it may be), we all know what happens if he gets killed.
Last time he was new to the Dead God business but I can imagine that he is mightily pissed to do the whole ascenion thing again.
Beware of the next Modron march!

Actually, that would be an AWESOME idea.

Think about it. As PCs, you're like 'I know we sacked a Goddess to stop him, but we defeated Orcus!' So the PCs are all happy and stuff and they continue their adventures. In a level or so, they are targeted for assassination [which probably fails or else the campaign comes to a sudden end]. Then as they try to figure out who targeted them and why, the hear rumors. Something about a powerful evil. Something about a real hate-on for them. But as they search, they find nothing. So after a time, they continue on with their next adventure. They get comfortable again. In the midst of another adventure, more assassins. Killers just keep popping up more and more, making it so that while they may want to do this other adventure, they are forced to deal with the one hiring these killers.

After some hard time, they come to realize that their true enemy is Orcus himself. They get REALLY freaked out. Why is he alive? HOW is he alive? If sacking a Goddess didn't kill him, what CAN? So they must search for a means to destroy him while at every turn, his agents are trying to stop him. This could lead up to the ultimate battle where they have finally found the means to stop him and just as they finished setting it up [or w/e; I have no idea what it might be, just saying], Orcus himself appears. Not an Aspect, but Orcus himself. This of course would be the final battle of the campaign, the culmination of everything. Do or die time. It doesn't matter who wins or who dies: there is no second chances.

It's a cool story. A lot of people are going to be claiming that you didn't do it "right" because Orcus is a zillion years old, should have killed them before they even thought about fighting him, deus ex machina, blahblahblah, but who cares? If you and the players had fun, you did it Right, and don't let anyone tell you different.

It's your call whether he's truly dead or not. Would it make for a good story for the PC's to realise they didn't permanently kill him, or would it make for a good story for him to stay dead and the PC's to have an epic reputation that they maybe can't live up to? What would allow for better plots, and what would the players (not necessarily the characters) get more fun out of? Go with that.

Agreed. Anyway, the real Orcus only has 120 hit points & is thus easily fightable by a 14th level party - EGG says so in my 1e MM.
