I killed Orcus!

One day I too would like to beat down a Demon Prince using a disco-style bowling ball.

Well, go and have a shot at Grazzt or Demogorgon or Lolth or whomever.
But not Orcus again!
All this PC animosity is only because he is THE Abyssal Celebrity and gets so much public exposure.
When has someone last killed Pazusu (s?) and bragged about it?
See, nobody cares about this demonic dove.

Give Orcus some break and kill someboy else!

Thirded. Though dare I ask, what happened to his wand? (Which is, I think, one of the real reasons so many go after Orcus - who doesn't want to wield it?)

Funnily enough, we killed Orcus' avatar back in 1e. Since some of the characters were elves, I always thought it'd be cool run an adventure set 100 years later, when Orcus' period of banishment is over and he seeks revenge.

It's a cool story. A lot of people are going to be claiming that you didn't do it "right" because Orcus is a zillion years old, should have killed them before they even thought about fighting him, deus ex machina, blahblahblah, but who cares? If you and the players had fun, you did it Right, and don't let anyone tell you different.

With regards to Orcus's CR - I think the GM told us he is a 22. He was using stats from Hordes of the Abyss, a book I don't own. However, the GM has been known to mix up critter stats on the same page (we had to fight a force/prismatic dragon once, because the GM kept reading the stat block for one and the special abilities for the other). Also, every member of the party has an epic weapon (well, the dragon shaman didn't get his until we killed Orcus - we think the mace is probably his now) or item (in the case of the archivist). They gave really potent advantages to the warmage & the fighter, at least. That really only got us TO Orcus. The rest was our own stupidity/audacity.. :)

With regards to why we were "picking on Orcus" - he was doing a ritual that would kill our characters as soon as it was completed - so far as we knew, we'd just drop dead, no saves, no other way to avoid it. So we had to get into his tower to disrupt it - not my fault his tower only had 4 rooms and he was doing the ritual in his throne room.

We don't actually know whether we killed him, or the Goddess for that matter, in character. Personally, my character (archivist) is assuming Orcus was only stunned, or that what we encountered was an avatar, and we sure left in a hurry, just in case. My character is also going to take up the worship of said sacrificial goddess. I may have to find a death-ward item, just in case.. :)

Epic weapons before 21st-level and you guys fought force and prismatic dragons at 14th-level?! Were they hatchlings?

If you guys do epic stuff at 14th-level, what is there left for you at 21st+?

Sounds like the ideal end to a movie. Just enough doubt to wonder if Orcus is dead or not.

Sounds like the party is going into the sequel.... and the big guy isn't happy....

I think we were 13th when we had to fight the force/prismatic dragon. Not only that, but we had to fight the dragon with the GM's rule that dragon's breath weapons did damage equal to their remaining hitpoints AND he was using 3.0 damage reduction rules (Yes, dr 20/+5 weapons comes up too often). And we were prepared to fight a red dragon, not a force (half prismatic) dragon. :P

We're pretty broken. And my archivist just acquired a first level scroll of haste that her uber cool pen will shortly turn into a divine scroll which I can pen into my spellbook..

Like I said.. broken. ;)

I imagine we will be facing things with 50+ armor class instead of 40+ armor class at 21st, and I'll be running around using ALOT of heals, and they'll have 40+ spell resistance instead of 30+ (*sigh*). I keep hoping we'll face a horde of reasonable things instead of single monsterous things. We just keep on defeating them and the GM just keeps throwing nastier things at us (like Orcus).

BM,

You and me both. Epic weapons before they even hit 20?! Dude... That's just WRONG.

I smell some trickies here, especially since you "apparently" summoned an archomental to deal with Orcus. Orcus, who already has a least ONE archomental kill to his list, Bwimb the First.

I dunno where anyone got the idea it was an archomental. It was Olladra (possibly Olldara), a NG deity of knowledge and prophecy. No elemental traits so far as I was aware..
