I love 1e...but I have a question about the ranger.

*sigh* I kinda miss 1E. You know what 3E needs? A 1E bard :)

That's probably one of the reasons I've never liked the 3rd Edition bard. Too many good memories of the 1st Edition bard.

Fochluchan Lyricists or however it's spelled?

Congratulations! You spelt it correctly! :) (Except it's a Lyrist, but close enough). :)

My County of Ulek (druidic-inspired) has a PC who has just reached the 1st level of Fochluchan Lyrist.

Cheers!

Yes, not certain of the spelling either, but it's in the Complete Adventurer and it is the closest thing to a 1E Bard in 3.5E.

It's a minimum 10th level character pre-req (one of the skills, perform i think, has to be 13), you need evasion too, bardic knowledge, arcane caster, divine caster and speak druidic. It's geared for the character to mult-class several times.

Thanks,
Rich

The ranger got magic user spells because he was the original survivor class and jack of all trades. It wasn't until 2nd edition that they treehuggerized (TM) him.
