I need a map suggestion

First Post
Next session my players are going to find themselves still adventuring in the Forgotten Realms, but they will have been transported through time, so that they are in the 'Modern Age'. The game currently takes place in Waterdeep, and I thought I'd keep it there, for the moment.

The question I have is, does anyone have a suggestion of a city, here in the modern world, whose makeup, would most resemble what Waterdeep would look like, if Waterdeep existed in a setting similar to the 21st century??

For those not familiar with Waterdeep, its a large medival type city that is a coastal town, and does have a mountain right next to it, with an outerwall. Obviously the mountain part isn't 100% important, but perhapes the rest? Does anyone have some suggestions?

Lisbon might work. It has an appropriately medieval cultural history, is built on a hill, and is an important port city.

Another possibility, take a map of Rio de Janeiro, and invert it east-west with a photoeditor. You'd lose any 'city wall' effect, but you'd have a bigger more sprawling city.

Probably best to get a European to answer this one though.

You might also try Genova (Italy)(I'm probably biased, as this is the town I come from): now it's a bit shrinking, but still it's not a small city. It's on the seaside but there are mountains immediatly on the other side. It has been a center of trade in the Mediterren sea in the middle ages/renaissance (not as important as Venice, but Venice is much smaller).
The old part of the city is very large (but, unfortunately, not very well kept)
The outerwalls of course now are all inside the city, as it has grown much larger.

If you're not too interested in the mountains behin then maybe Barcellona(sp?) (Spain): I think it's larger and with an important port. Also a very nice city, and you probably can find maps and views of the city in turistic websites.
