Hello, I am going to be exploring the wide world of the Artificer//Wizard as a gestalt character in a new game, 1st level starting.
I am going for wizard as the secondary class to have some buff spells and of course, some decent offensive spells, mostly force based.
Now, from what I gather, there are a few ways to go about making an Artificer, go for buffs and become a tank, go for wand mastery or staff mastery and become a master of those weapons, or become a scroll fiend and add wicked meta-magic feats to pretty much any spell you want. Of course, as an Artificer, you get to do all of the above, but you can definatly pick feats to be better an one over the other.
So, I was going to pick feats to go towards scroll mastery, but then I was reading dual wand wielder feats from the complete arcane and I thought that might be a decent way to go, but the low DC of wands and the fact that they can only be 4th level or lower make me think that wands might not be worth the feats to become a duel wand wielder.
Has anyone ever played with the feat? Is it worth it?
I like staves cause they go by your saving throws DCs, but to my knowledge, there are not feats that really aid you for staves, are there?
Any other ideas about helpful tricks for Artificers?
One more thing, the DM is giving everyone a free item, we get to choose, but I don't think it is magical, but I think it will be of good enough quality to eventually get it enchanted. He suggested a staff, but I am not sure, can I don't know if you can cast a spell with a staff in your hand or if you need two hands free.
Any other suggestions for a free-be item from the DM?
