I need names

First Post
I'm currently enrolled in a class called Seminar in Playwriting.

For our final project, we have to write a one-act play, and I've chosen to do a fairy tale. But the names I've chosen for my characters are less than inspiring:

Rosemary (Protagonist. Adventerous Princess.)
Hexel (Antagonist. Evil Witch.)
Cleofax (Rosemary's Father. Benevolent King.)
Moonstone (Rosemary's Mother. Deceased.)

The Rotund Doctor and the Frail Doctor (A pair of Highly Educated Idiots.)
The Healing Woman (A wise and patient healer.)

Mr. and Mrs. Hedgehog (A kindly couple of critters.)
Mr. Fox (A sly animal hungry for hedgehogs.)

Some of the proper names sound silly, Mr. Fox doesn't sound menacing enough, and the healers don't have names at all.

Anybody have suggestions?

Go with the names from Italian comiedia del arte (sp?). They used a limited number of names that certain archetypes more or less always used. Your teacher will dig it.

There's a baby name database out on the internet somewhere, search for it (I'll see if I can find it).

Whizbang's instincts are pretty good here!

However, if you still want to do something different, tell us more about the characters. The more we know, the better the names we can give you.

For instance, the Doctors- played for laughs? malevolent? merely incompetent?
Try these:

Fat and Skinny
Clodd and Hopper
Anvil and Pointer
Block and Twigge
Hamm and Bones

or you could go with some of the fat/skinny comedy pairings: Laurel and Hardy, Mutt and Jeff.

Perhaps you can use the names from spam mails in your mail account.
Fortunatley, I don't get enough spam that I can do that.

Besides, I'm looking for something a little less modern.

On the net exists more than one online baby names database. :)

Here you can find some links to baby names databases.

I think the names a perfectly fine for a fairytale especially if your going for a Pantomime or childrens play flavour

Cleofax and Moonstone I miht change though change - why not just Her Highness/Mother and His Highness/Father

Cleofax and Hexel (And to a lesser extent, Moonstone) are the names I'm least happy with.

Unfortunately, I can't just call them "the queen" or "your majesty" all the time, but if I can't come up with good names, titles might at least disguiese the bad ones.
