I played my first game of Cthulhu last night

It was great fun. There was this pervading sense of dread throughout the whole game, that I've never experienced in D&D before. Very creepy stuff.
I played an Archeologist, Evan Kartofsky, a Russian/Polish man with a gift for languages and an interest in the supernatural. At the behest of the DM, I took the Psychic Sensitive feat. Yeah, my character will be insane in a short while. ;)
The whole game was an amalgamation of d20 Modern and Cthulhu, so the group consisted of a Fast Hero, a Tough Hero, and a Smart Hero (me).
The single biggest highlight of the game occured when I proceeded to thwack an animated corpse in the head with a toilet cover. Good times. :D
Anyone else have any fun Cthulhu stories?

I love Call of Cthulhu. Too bad I dislike BRP system heavily and I'm not too happy about the D20 implementation (the magic system is so lovely but the character creation system is so bland).

Glad you had a good time!

Lucky sod.

I'd love to play in those kind of games (the ones that work). Trying to get a game in seaton is like teaching someone from Beer monogamy (:D)

By any chance, was your GM a gal named Holly? A friend of mine was running her first Cthulu game this week - probably a long shot, but you never know. :)

Nope. I'm from Northern Illinois, quite a bit aways from Battle Creek. :)

CoC is a great game. I finally found one to play in about a year and a half ago (I've played D&D for 26 years OTOH) and it's a blast.

Our campaign is set in 1920's England. And our Keeper (GM) is English. I play a Solicitor (Lawyer). He's the Negotiator/Legal Wiz/Driver/Intermediary/Librarian/Face character of the group.

We're stuck in the middle of a number of plots that run to the highest ranks of the British government. In our last session, our Antiquarian/Sorcerer and one of the manservant types were killed by Nyarlothotep (our first direct encounter with an Old One) and my secondary, Sgt. Young of the Royal Marines (our contact with the Department of Special Research) was pretty much forcably retired by the event (dropped from 85 Sanity at the beginning of the adventure to 38 at the end).

Then Edward (my character) and Dr. Dodgeson (the GM's wife) were kidnapped by a rival group. With a few lucky rolls (very lucky!) and a bit of underestimation by the bad guys (She's 4'10" and a psychiatrist, not to mention...(ahem) Female.), she single-handedly rescued us from near certain death by torture.

Three bad guys were trying to take her out of her cell in order to strap her to a gourney. She got lucky and got free. The guy with the gun fired and missed. She knocked it from his hand. One of the two guys holding her critically fumbled and hit the other guy. She grabbed the gun and fired wildly, missing. The guy who fumbled before did so again, falling down and taking the other one with him. The former owner of the gun charged, only to take a critical hit, killing him. (Ie, she fired, hitting him square in the middle of the forehead, killing him instantly)

The two guys on the floor, by now impressed and scared, were locked into her cell. We went up the elevator and were half way out before we were discovered. Frustrated look on the GM's face when he rolls that there is a car just outside, and that it happens to have the keys still in it. We hop in and I start the car.

Next sunday, we take up from that point.

Dr. Dodgeson, btw, has few combat skills. We're still using pre-d20 rules and she has the base 20% Pistol rating. The bad guys knew she wasn't much of a shot, but the lucky 'middle of the forehead' shot managed to convince them that their intelligence on us was wrong. Especially after her 14 str and lucky roll had "shown" them that she was a better hand-to-hand fighter than they had been told.
