It really depends on the campaign. My Dragon Heist game, which we finished recently, had a clear ending, other games are much more open.

Yeah, me too. That's actually the reason why I generally try to build-in a "finish by" date. Personally, I find that a short but complete campaign is much more satisfying than one that just fizzles and slowly descends into the sad, gaping maw of inconclusiveness.Most games I've been in, either as a player or dm, have roughly the same ending. Namely, some mix of scheduling conflicts and burnout causes the campaign to end.
I'm having fun play Tomb of Annihilation, but I wish I didn't know as much about it as I do. That's one of the reasons I prefer home games, even if they borrow heavily from published mods.Not only is this false for me, it's a thing that will absolutely and actively ruin a game for me, either as player or DM, unless it's handled so well as to be invisible to me.
Most unfortunate. I have some minor experience with this--a semi-long-runner DW game I played in ended about 2-3 sessions before it would have had its proper conclusion because the other two players were taking care of their nephew and had to get ready for school things in the new school year (because both of them are teachers.)Most games I've been in, either as a player or dm, have roughly the same ending.
