I think I might be a creepy older gamer

I wouldn't put it past myself. I'm definitely the type. I tick all the boxes in the stereotypical profile of one. But what most makes me wonder is that I'm genuinely considering gaming with a young girl as the DM.

Icky, right?

I was in a new store the other night as referenced here and whilst asking the store clerk about running or participating in D&D games, a gamer-geek girl standing at the counter in her school uniform piped up that I should join her D&D game at the store on Sundays.

Thankfully my immediate gut reaction was to balk and politely decline, mentioning that I'm only feeling out my options... although I didn't use those exact words. My words then were far less creepy.

But then my mind began to stir. What harm would there be in joining her game? All I want to do is pretend to be an elf in a magical fantasy land with a high school girl telling me what to do. That's not creepy... right? For all I know, she's some sort of GM'ing prodigy. All my instincts are telling me it's a bad idea. But then my logical mind kicks in and says, "Hey, if I was a 35 year old woman, this wouldn't be a problem!"

This is the best thread posted all day. I now have the funniest mental image in my mind and I would have loved seeing this happening in real life. What I'd give to have been standing nearby at that moment.

You must not be that creepy if she was the one to invite you. Unless she's in to creepy guys. Or maybe you are the subject of one of those "Mean Girl" pranks?

It doesn't sound bad to me, but then I am an older gamer who is running a biweekly game for teens & tweens. If one wanted to run rather than play then I'd be willing to give it a try.

A gamer is a gamer. I may be creepy and old, but I think that I am creepy in some other way than you intend. (As in I like running games set in creaky old buildings with things hiding in the shadows.) When running for kids I tend to go into teacher mode.

Then again, more than half the parents are in one or another of my adult games. (Going back up to four games... running three, with two alternating, and playing in a fourth that will start in a few weeks.... I so very seldom get to play, I had a -4 to my Will save. :( )

It's maybe kind of creepy that you think it's creepy. If you find yourself stirred by impure thoughts, I guess it's creepy. :)

Not really. Unless you view gaming as a medium to find dates. Creepy would be going there with condoms JIC and having a mattress ready in your van. For all you knew she asked you because her gamer-dad or gamer-mom will be there as well and she doesn't want her parent to be the only older gamer there.

That said, a high school girl still in her uniform after dark is just a bit suspicious.
Well... she asked you to join. And since it's a store game, you could always show up for a session, try it out, and if it's weird, then you can gracefully bow out.
Bingo.
