I think I'm going crazy . . .

The Walmarts near me in Central Illinois are really very nice. I would like to avoid them on moral grounds but they have effectively destroyed all meaningful competition. I'm glad to see they are losing ground to Target (2nd quarter Walmart corporate report) with upper middleclass shoppers - that is the one other place I can go - and I do like Target stores. Even though I would hardly qualify for upper middle class - I'm a high school teacher afterall ;)

I don't have a problem with Wal-Mart and shop there fairly often (headed there tomorrow - well, later today according to the system clock - in fact). They're no worse than any other store from what I can tell. I know they have the reputation as the scourge of small businesses, but I honestly believe that if there were no Wal-Mart, some other store would take their place. I do not agree with their censorship policies, but then I don't buy media products there, so it's not an inconvenience to me.

And, frankly, there are idiots everywhere (including at the origin of this post!).

I like Walmart, mostly because it's the only place within hours driving that you can go shopping at after 9 that doesn't exclusively sell food or have a convenience store clerk attached to it on an umbilical. People were evil self-interested greedy idiots before Walmart, I don't have a problem with Walmart making it 24 hr with stuff to buy.

I wish it sold D&D even. That would be the distribution wowza of the century for RPGs, our sign that we'd finally arrived and were mainstream enough to share shelf time with dustbusters and underwear. Plus, I could sit and read books at 3am in the store. That would rock.

I lothe Walmart. The one closest to me is by far the worst store I've ever been in (Of any kind, not just walmart). Spills all over the floor, every lane filled and they don't move (Their cashiers are slow in general). What I'm looking for I can almost never find, and if I can, it's usually out. Never a knowledgable employee to answer questions (Actualy never an employee period), and I've found that their prices are more expensive than Target.

I used to live near a good K-mart, but they're too far away now. Target is closer, nice, and I get the employee discount there too (Family member, not me). I used to like Meijer, but I've been boycotting them since my GF was forced to sue them on workman's comp and injury issues.

Yes, Wal-Mart has very bad business practices. Yes, they treat their suppliers very, very poorly. And, yes, I shop there every Friday. :)

We grocery shopping every Friday and we do it because they're cheaper, plain and simple. I'm supporting evil and I don't care.

But they're building a new Hyvee near us and, once it's done, we'll go there. It'll be twice as big as the old Hyvee and has a natural foods section. It'll also have a larger selection that Wal-Mart. Hopefully the prices won't be much worse, if they are at all. :)

I spent a few years in Indianola, which is south of Des Moines. In fact, that's where I first learned to play D&D, and where I met my future wife. And the infamous "Eric's Grandmother" lives there.

Iowa's really important! :D

I have 2 Super Walmarts with in 5 miles of each other. I never go there for grocery shopping, we have a very nice grocery chain here in Florida for that. I actually go to Walmart more often than not at like 2 or 3 in the morning. When I want an X-Box game or a DVD right then and there. Its always busy. And what pisses me off is there is always a family shopping at 2am with thier 3 kids on a Monday durning school. Now I know nothing of these people but it just seems wrong to see a 6 year olds up at 3am on a Monday.
