I think I'm going crazy . . .

If you go into any location with a pre-conceived notion of who/what you're going to find in there, then of course you're going to "feel dirty" or think that people in there are stupid. Gimme a break. I find it asinine that people complain about Wal-Mart first and then go in there and "their opinions are justified." That's BS. You're opinions are justified because you WANT them to be justified. You find anything you can to verify your opinions and make yourself feel better that you don't shop there. Get over yourself; you're not perfect.

[/rant]

Actually, I went into my first Wal-Mart cold turkey, and was not pleased by the experience in the least. The service was sub par, and the store itself was not clean. Hence my comment about not feeling clean after I left. Then, of course, I saw the TV spots which seemed to indicate that the stores staff wasn’t supposed to know a thing about the products they sell. Imagine that, this is supposed to make me want to shop there? (shrug) I prefer the staff to knows about the products they sell, and more than simply, “Aisle 17.” It is not a question of their ignorance, but of their training, and the money the company is welling to invest in getting that training.

As for my opinions being justified. Well it is, because it is just that, my opinion. My opinion doesn’t have to hold up to a scientific proof. It is simply a belief I have concerning this particular issue. But, I think, in this case, it was formed through experience, and real life observations, not preconceived notions as you seem to indicate. You can ignore my opinion as you like, and you can attempt to change my mind if wish, but this is simply my opinion, and I can act on it by not shopping there to express my displeasure at their business model. That is my right as a consumer. I realize your post was created as a rant, but I felt it needed a rebuttal to clarify my position and my previous remarks in light of your comments.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's please drop back from the political comments. This is going straight into "argument" territory.

As I said, "I'd like to not support them for a number of reasons, but can't afford not to." If you can, great! We'll almost all familiar with the arguments at hand, but dragging people into arguments over proper/improper practices, labor practices, etc. this isn't really the best place to discuss it.

We have two of the Supercenters in my town, both very clean with wide open aisles and open 24 hours a day. My wife hates Walmart; I dig them. I hate to go shopping, so I like having everything in one store so I can get done and get out.

I'm all for the mom and pop stores, too. But they're closed by the time I get back into town from work, and half of them are closed on Saturdays in the town where I live. So even if I wanted to, I'd have a hard time patronizing one of them. So, Walmarting I go.

Ok. Can we discuss your ugly avatar then? :p

It's quite different from that pic of Henry VIII you had.

Then you missed the Henry Kissinger avatar, then. :) I've been looking for pics of other famous "Henry"s to do a little changing up. If you know of net sources of other good protraits of Henry VIII besides the three or four common ones (the Holbein one, et. al.) I'm all eyes.

Have you used the candy bar yet?
