Using light in the Heroic tier adds a lot to atmosphere and gameplay, if done properly. Why were the alien films to exiting? Imagine how boring it would be if everyone had a massive "top down" view radius in the film...lol.

That's pretty much exactly what the motion sensors were...

But beyond that: the main thing is that the light rules as written are pretty bad. I agree that light and darkness can be effective tools, but to do so you have to depart heavily from the default rules.
