D&D 4E I want 4E NOW!

I'm not a prolific poster. The boards scare me more than entice me. But I just had to get this off my chest.

I WANT 4E NOW!

Seriously. I don't care about the grognards. I don't care about miniature dependence. I don't care about tieflings and dragonborn (although, not IMC thank you very much!). I don't care about all the Negative Nancies and their criticisms.

I just want it. Now.

How can you not be excited by this? The developers involved are some of the most skilled in the industry as has been proven by their previous works. Am I a fanboi? I don't think so. But I find the whole concept of people who really understand the inner machinations of game mechanics who really love gaming who are working on this edition to make it the best they possibly can, really exciting.

Sure, GG was a pioneer. There are some great works in previous editions. I love Greyhawk. But gaming is like any hobby, sport, technology, etc. The longer it exists, the more skilled and knowledgeable the creators and designers become. I have nothing against previous edition designers, but I do think there is a certain reality in that this editions designers know more about gaming than others before them.

Doesn't that excite you? Sure, not all new cars are as good as previous models. But let's face it, wouldn't you rather drive a new car than an old one? The old one has charm, no doubt. In fact, I'm a big fan of classic cars and intend to one day own a Ford GTHO Phase III. But given the choice as a practical car for every day driving, I'd take a brand new Ford Falcon base model over the classic.

Anyway, let this thread fade into the oblivion of the second page if you must. I just felt the need to say I'm looking forward to the new edition and discovering all it entails.

I, too, am really looking forward to this edition of DnD. It seems more of my cup of tea than previous editions. I did love 3.5, however, but I know it's flaws. :p

I am also looking forward to it. Dragonborn and tieflings fit into my campaign really well anyway (Tieflings have been running around since 2e. Dragonborn-esque critters since early 3e). This is going to be another great edition of the game, I think. I've loved every edition of D&D. The game is looking like it is going to be better than ever.

I'm looking forward to it too.

I've not played D&D in a very long time. The 3e rules were a vast improvement over the old rules, but stuff like online games drew me away from D&D.

With the focus of 4e seeming to be on 'doing stuff' instead of adding numbers, I'm looking forward to looking into it. If I want to chase numbers and spank mobs to death with bigger and bigger numbers I'll play WoW tyvm. In fact I DO play WoW and not D&D.

I'm most looking forward to the rules for the terrain and trap based combat enviroments. Combine that with magic items that add more options instead of adding numbers, you've got something that WoW has a difficult time offering.

The story telling and 'off the rails' aspect really isn't a big draw. Most DMs are not any better at story telling than folks writing the quests for MMOs, and you really can't go off the rails since they are even worse at winging something interesting.

I want it now as well, but I've learned to be patient. In the meantime, reading about the conceptual changes in 4e has really got me thinking about my performance as a DM and what I can do to make gameplay smoother and more fun.

I'm excited too.

What attracted me to 3e was how consistent the rules were. Since then we've learned that too much consistency is a bad thing. These new rules look to be shaping up as a balance of sensible and consistent.

I'm also excited about how much simpler it looks to be to DM, by allowing them to concentrate on the story instead of the numbers.

The absence of the Great Wheel, alignments, and surplus of monsters that the PC's will never fight are all good things.

Me too.

I've been going on WotC's site and ENworld like 5 times a day to see if there's any more information. I've read the Races & Classes and the Worlds & Monsters. I can't get enough of it.

I've played D&D or a homebrew at least once a week (more before I was married) since 1987, and this edition excites me more than any has. (I DM about four fifths of the times that I play, and I've got less & less time now that I have kids, so anything that will make my work easier is a blessing!)

3rd edition fixed almost every problem I had with 2nd, but the more I played it, the more it's own problems bothered me to the point where I barely like it anymore. I think the D20 system is BRILLIANT, but many of the nit-pickitty rules bug the crap out of me.

EVERYTHING I hate about 3E is EXACTLY the stuff that Mike Mearls listed off the top of his head, and everything they state as their goals to fix.

I think new classes and races are great, because it's simply SELECTION, and MORE OF IT. If I don't like a race or a class, I won't play it, though I expect I may come around on some of them.

I already have changed my mind on the Dragonborn, who I thought at first was a bit much, but now I think I even want to play one.

I SAY BRING ON JUNE!
