I want self contained modules!

I'm running a game for my younger son and his friends and they like the combination of rpg and board game feel when gaming. I can use dungeon tiles and various map products with our minis to achieve this, but I'd KILL for a module that at minimum, contained all the encounter maps you would need for the module - not just the "main" encounters. Is there any published 4e adventure that includes a 1x1 scale map for ALL the encounters?

I know there was talk of "super adventures" that would include maps and minis (or even tokens for that matter) and hand outs....anything like that out there? As always - any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated!

It'll be for Pathfinder not 4E, but Spes Magna Games is working on a convention-style adventure that will include pre-gen characters, paper miniatures, player handouts, et cetera. It should be available sometime next month. Due to writer illness, it's a bit behind the curve on getting ready for release.

the starter box should contain something resembling that. unfortunately what you're looking for is most similar to what is made available for the worldwide D&D gamedays for which the actual kits are not for sale but provided by wizards for stores to give out on that day to run.

Badwe - I've played the gameday events and you're correct - that's what I'm looking for - just extrapolated to cover an entire modules worth of gaming and not just a tournament...although I'd take the gameday modules as a "close enough" if they sold them.

Mark, while I'd prefer 4e, Pathfinder might work. I didnt see any info on the website about the adventure....any screenshots available?

I would definitely would love to have a product like this. 3.5 had an awesome starter set that came with tiles, dice, some miniatures (20? maybe?) and some simple adventures to get you started. I would love to see the same kind of format for a regular module in 4e. Heck, I would settle for the miniatures and adventure in the box, and a list of the dungeon tiles required.

Yes. It's called "Into the Shadowhaunt". Unfortunately, it was never up for sale, but a promotional freebie at 4e's release in 2008. It was amazing - you got all the encounters AND all the minis for the adventure...even including the 5 demo PCs! Your best chance is to occasionally check if it's up on Ebay. I saw people selling off their copies as late as 2009.

Other than that, I'd strongly recommend you keep to published modules which feature encounter maps already displaying which tiles to use. That way there's no time wasted scratching your head and trying to figure out how to best approximate encounters. So if you buy 1 tile set each of: Dire Tombs, Vane of the Forgotten Gods, Halls of the Giant Kings, then you get 30 readymade 1-session adventures in Dungeon Delve.

Finally, one 4E modules at least contained good instructions on how to build the encounters from tiles.

These are my 3 recommendations, in descending order. The final one is the most clumsy one, but still better than to get a 4E module with gorgeous dungeon maps... where you got no clue how to approximate the encounter maps.
