I watched Firefly last night... and it was good!

Some of you probably know me to be a huge Firefly critic on these boards. Being a huge Angel fan and a lesser Buffy fan, I watched Firefly with much anticipation when it first came out, but by the third episode I hated it. The western redneck theme really really turned me off.

But last night I was bored and there was an episode on so I watched the whole thing and it was quite good! It was thankfully free of most of what I hated about episodes I had seen in the past, other than the occasional twang in the score. It was about the crew infiltrating a hospital to get an MRI done of the doctor's crazy sister. The secret agent guys who came in totally reminded me of the floating fairytale guys in that Buffy episode where everyone loses their voice.

So does someone want to spoil the series for me now that its over? What was the deal with his sister and these agents? Or did it never get that far?

A couple of points:

1) The last 6 episodes of this show were PHENOMENAL. They had just hit their stride when they got cancelled. To me, it was a tremendous loss, especially now with only Angel on the air. A lot of the initial criticism seemed to vaporize when they got as far as the episode titled "out of gas," as well as when the pilot finally aired, which was good enough for me to say it REALLY should have been on first - the first couple of episodes would have gelled better, IMO.

2) They never revealed the whole "sister" plot, though a DVD collection is coming out next year for purchase (and likely for rent as well), with not only all the aired episodes, but the final three unaired ones, as well.

I highly recommend checking out that DVD when it comes out - I know I'm going to.

I believe that the DVD is coming out in about 4 weeks...around 9 December or thereabouts.

I'll try to find confirmation of this.

Plus, we've got a movie coming out at some point, possibly, which ought to tie up the whole sister thing pretty clearly, according to JW.

Well, they never revealed the whole thing with River, the Academy and the agents, but basically
they experimented on her, removed some of the normal "filters" in her brain, and made her telepathic in the process. They may have wanted a super-assassin, because she does show significant kick-ass ability in a later episode.

The three unaired episodes don't deal much with River, though.

Gina Torres is in it. 'Nuff said.

One of the funniest things I ever saw on television was a conversation between Gina Torres (as Cleopatra) and Bruce Campbell (as Autolycus) on Xena: Warrior Princess. Two very funny people hamming up some of the silliest double-entendre dialogue you ever heard. Yay.

gee, thanks for having the impatience to get the show cancelled.

the unaired episodes are fun, i really liked one of them. but none of them are the best episode of the series.

Really want to see the movie. (and more)
