I wonder whether extending wizards will be practical

We've heard that illusionists, necromancers, psions and so on will be forthcoming character classes which have a greater focus on their related areas.

I wonder how easy it will be to simply make some of their powers available to the wizard power list.

Time will tell, I guess - but for those who would like to have more generalist wizards, it might work.

This might be where the power source types might come in useful.

Easy, maybe, but if you're using other classes as written, then probably unbalanced.

Which I don't mind. I really like the idea of a more focused necromancer and illusionist class.

It will be as easy as taking the multiclass feats. :D

I understand that 4E doesn't want to create the ranger-rogue multiclass=heaven / cleric-wizard multiclass=hell situation one finds in 3.5, but still, it'd be nice if multiclassing wizard and illusionist was easier than multiclassing non-arcane-caster and illusionist.
