I won't be switching to D&D 3.5e

A lot of people have said you don't have to pay for it just download the SRD, but I'm not so sure about this. There will of course be stuff not included in the SRD and they have removed things recently as well. Not only that, I have in the rules forum seen people make completely incorrect rulings based on the SRD because the wording was different. Simply put information will be missing.

So for me this is an issue of cost amoung other things. However, I'm most worried about the split in the community that I believe is going to be coming from this.

WotC Marketing Executive: "Mu-ha-ha-haaa!"

Me, I'll probably be a lemming and buy the core books all over again. That is, once I get a job again. (Software developer, here; laid off for nearly a year now.) Then again, once I go back to work, I won't have as much time as I do now for roleplaying games (and for being involved on these message boards).

Ah, me -- it's a catch 22.

First off lets hope that the new books don't have as many errors as the first ones and every other book released by WotC so that there won't be errata for them.

Second there have been so many changes to the rules that unless you use only 3.5 books you will have tons of errrata to use the other 3.0 books with 3.5. It has already been anounced that they would be releasing errata for the Fiend Folio to make the DR compatible.

Compared to most gaming books (say Palladium ones for example) 3e was a marvel of editing.

3e has such a huge customer base that people were bound to find large loopholes and problems no matter how well playtested the product was.

As for hoping there will not be errata in the next edition: that’s practically an impossibility, there will always be mistakes. WOTC is actually pretty good (again compared to most companies) about acknowledging them and trying to fix them.

Having now seen the books, I will definitely be buying them and starting my next campaign using 3.5, no question about it. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll switch my current campaign over. I'm leaning strongly to "yes" if my players agree.

Seen them? Oh, that's too bad. Now we'll just have to nab you and have you submit to rigorous interogation under the influence of hypnosis to squeeze all the juicy info tidbits out of you... :D

I'll bring the Dagger of Cure Light Wounds and the isopropyl rubbing alcohol! Someone else get the carpet tacks and lemon juice.
