D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

Sensing Miles' interest in further investigation of the tavern, Dent stepped backward away from the door. "I'm betting the door is warded to prevent sounds from extruding, but feel free to have at it. I'll watch the hall while you sally forth."

I definitely saw a figure Thaliss telepathically says. I believe we are dealing with an illusion, or perhaps undead. He throws a silver coin at Dent and adds. Can you throw this at one of the dwarves? If he catches it, we'll know it is not an illusion. If he's real, he shouldn't mind the tip, even if undead! He then adds, surmising Recall the stone monastery: there was a creature that seemed to be a rather potent spellcaster. Perhaps there is a pattern here.

OOC: Dent has moved backward, well away from the door. But Miles is there, and Kubeba is just behind him, or maybe even has stepped forward to fill the hole left by Dent.

Maighan advances to stand beside Dent, and looks at the door.

"We haven't seen dwarves down here before," she muses quietly. "though it's not impossible. It does seem a little strange they'd all be off duty drinking at the same time."

When Miles next opens the door, he hears no sound, sees no red eyes in the dark, no leprous gnome in the corner, no golem.

This building was once a dwarven hall for feasting. Old wooden tables lay scattered and broken throughout the long main room, and three gigantic casks line the wall behind what was once a beautiful oak bar. Behind the casks are doors for loading and unloading the casks.

The gigantic casks once held fine dwarven ale, but they have been dry for centuries.

~ " ... Well then."

Miles poked his head past the portcullis, peering around the corners past the door, but still, there was nothing. And yet, he had heard the celebration earlier. He knew there was something, and now ...

Was this some sort of illusion? A bit of leftover magic? The soldier turned towards Dent and the others, raising an eyebrow in question.

" There's nothing in here ... Nothing at all."

He shrugged, stepping through the doorway to search the place out and see what, exactly, was going on here, his spear at the ready. ~

" There's nothing in here ... Nothing at all."

Telepathically, Thaliss says to the group Beware, we are dealing with a likely invisible illusionist. He or she clearly did not want confrontation, and we should likely start with a dialogue, if we can

Thaliss approaches the door, but stays behind Miles, and says out loud: "Hello there, we know you didn't want to fight, and thank you for not attacking us. We are freeing captive slaves, and want to make sure you are ok. I know you are here, I saw you by the candlelight. We don't want to harm you. Just talk."
