D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

OOC:
OOC: Yes. Honestly, I want to continue acting as if it is a bush, using it for illusory cover -- I don't *want* to investigate it. The roll is just to allow Carradoc to act with the knowledge I have, if needed.

Behind the bush would be S24, and you're well within chill touch's range. I don't think you need to investigate the illusion if you just touch it (which probably doesn't even require an action). You'd still get the illusory cover. I think.

Dent quietly drew his longsword from its sheath. He picked out the soldier with the saw-toothed sword standing closest to the river bank and the rowboats, and angled toward his mark. He chanted softly to himself as he walked, weaving a wicked spell. "Dominus meus cor tuum da mihi sapientiam vestigare invenire animo fortitudinem interfecisset."

OOC: [roll0]. Dent will move as far as he can, which by my Forged Fury's read is 30' of regular movement in his medium armor, plus another 30' of movement from Dash, from T20 to H18 (does that dark green square provide any form of cover?). He casts hunter's mark and targets the aforementioned soldier in G9 with the spell. Hunter's mark has a range of 90', so the soldier should be within range. Dent avoids the terrain areas that look overgrown or difficult. If for some reason Dent can't both move and act, he'll move only and will advance as far as possible toward his chosen target.

Surprise round: The chill touch connects but Tolan's arrow does not. I moved Aridha up, please feel free to tell me if that's not your action. Thaliss, Tolan, Aridha, and Carradoc all beat the Reavers/Bandits/Priest in initiative and get to act again.

Caught from behind, the enemies are slow to react. The cold strikes the priest and his yell is the first sign of combat. Tolan fires an arrow that sails just over the man guarding the boat. He turns around and yells, "Ambushed!" and points his finger rather than drawing his sword. The priest curses. "By Olhydra's fury!"

Dent stalked forward. Although he first reached the pirate standing beside the rowboat, Dent half kept his eye on his quarry--the saw-tooth bladed soldier closer to the beached river vessel. Dent held his longsword in one hand, his shield in the other. He thrust his blade at the brigand by the rowboat, aiming to kill.

OOC: Move to E14 and attack the brigand/pirate. Does the brigand/pirate provide Dent half cover from the cleric? Longsword [roll0] for [roll1].

Tolan continues his forward momentum, darting through the grass. He falls back into his meditative trance easily as he stares down his target. Without conscious effort, his hand is already drawing his blade and he allows its tip to whip forward as he pulls up directly in front of his nearest foe.

OOC: Interaction: draw sword.
Move: P9
Minor action: Rage
Action: Attack Reaver 08
[roll0]
[roll1]

Edit: would you believe it? +1d10 damage.

Rage (1/3 used - round 1/10 raging)
Resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, piercing
Advantage on strength checks and saves.

Thaliss focuses his mind, and lets go a beam of force directed at the priest. He stays put, and watches the priest to see if he realizes where the blast is coming from.

OOC: cast eldrich blast targetting the priest. I am assuming that rules for unseen attackers apply [sblock]phb page 195 When a creature can’t see you, you have advantage on attack rolls against it[/sblock]

Carradoc moves outside of the illusory cover and fires again. He then heads toward the river, following the route Damien has taken.

OOC: To hit: [roll0].
If a hit, [roll1] necrotic damage, unable to recover hit points.
Move s23-m23.

EDIT: No fun having to loo up the rule for critical failure. Fortunately, it's just a guaranteed miss. Carradoc's spell fizzles, and his finger goes numb for a moment.

Aridha gestures with her staff and speaks several short phrases in the sacred language of the spirits. The shrubs and grasses respond to her entreaty, sprouting and growing with reckless speed, twining up and around the legs of the four nearest the boat!

(Entangle on I7, Dex save vs DC 14 or be restrained!)

Thaliss acts first, blasting the priest with force and necrotic damage.

Tolan strikes true against the Shark-toothed blade wielding Reaver. The Reaver takes 23 points of damage, enough to drop him.

Aridha restrains two of the bandits.

Carradoc has an unfun time with an ineffective spell.

The bandits move around, shuffling to engage the barbarian mostly. Both targets restrained by Aridha don't appear to be moving.

The bandits flanking Tolan attack. Neither even comes close to scratching him.

The last remaining bandit jumps for the Paladin landing a solid hit with his cutlass for 7 points of damage.

The remaining reaver can't close the gap with anyone quick enough, and instead moves to protect the priest while throwing a javelin at Tolan. This javelin strikes particularly well, dealing 6 points of damage.

Finally, the priest casts a defensive ward bluring his position and causing disadvantage to attack rolls against himself.

OOC: Carradoc had moved to M23 last time, I think

Carradoc sees the blurred figure of the priest, and is confident that he should remain his prime target. As he continues to move to the river, he fires magic missile at the caster.

Pointing his finger, he makes a clicking sound in his cheek three times, sending the force bolts across the field and past the protecting fighter.

OOC:
Move: m23 to g23
magic missile (auto hit -- save for concentration spell?)
bolt 1: [roll0]
bolt 2: [roll1]
bolt 3: [roll2]
