Deirdre frowned at the foul fowl at her feet and lowered her sword across it's neck, slicing it's head clean from it's rotten body. She then turned to join the others at the gate, helping Havoc with the downed merchant.
The last zombie chicken, beheaded by Deidre, runs around in a circle before finally falling over. The wall placed by Benny seems to slow the other zombies just enough to give Deidre and Benny a chance to make it to the gate.
Havoc manages to stabalise the Merchant and drag his unconcious body across the threshold of the gate just as one of the zombies figures out that the illusory wall will not hold it from its dinner. Other zombies follow suit, appearing to pass through the wall like a ghosts apparating.
Everyone shuffles through the gate as fast as they can and Stratus, with some effort, pushes the gate closed with a heavy clang then throws down the bar and chains it shut.
Zombies hit the iron gate, arms reaching through trying to grasp at whatever living flesh they can get their hands on but their efforts are futile. The group turns from the gnashing teeth of the dead to gaze upon their destination. The large stone fortress of Erin Tor - long ago converted into a temple of the dead stands before them.
As they enter the court yard, they get a feeling of calm despite the raging storm above. Almost as if they are protected from the evil energy that permeates the area. Standing sixty feet high in the courtyard is a stone pillar with a symbol of Pelor and Weejas upon it. Runes are inscribed around it and an iron flame tops it. It is the beacon but the flame is dark. The clouds are foreboding and as the group approaches the fortress proper. Two large Oak doors guard the entranceway.
Passing through the doors, they enter a large, room with high ceilings. The mood is quiet and dark, but almost peaceful. It is a large sanctuary with stain glass windows depicting Pelor, god of the sun along one side. On the other the glass depicts Weejas, god of magic and the dead. In the middle is an altar and, at the altar is a priest, in yellow robes, praying. He turns when he hears you enter.
"Oh, welcome....come in." He seems troubled and confused,
"I hope everything is alright. I didn't expect anyone but the High Priest...how did you get a key to the gates? Things are quite troubling. The Beacon has gone out and I think something very bad has happened. "
It seems this priest is unaware of what has happened.
You've made it safely to the Temple!
You've got some time to identify your potions and gather yourselves together.
I have a bit of exposition and rp to do before we short rest.
Caer pulls out the two pendants and begins to look at them, hoping that something about them is familiar.
OOC:
Okay, I am going to make two arcana rolls (typical way). If either of them can be identified some other way, let me know - I can certainly think of ways to use other skills, but arcana is the typical way, and I don't have identify.
Max is proficient in Arcana, +4 bonus and had guidance. Is it ok to assume he helps all the others (including Caer)? @TaranTheWanderer
Max rolls to identify potions (assumes use of guidance - arcana) Roll 1: 19 Roll 2: 17
Benny is finally able to catch his breath. He looks at the others and says "I am so glad to see you all!".
He then retrieves the two potions and removes the lids. Max inspects them and smells them, and thinks maybe he knows what they are.
A Max does this, Benny hears the priest. He is very puzzled by his words. "Sir, haven't you gone outside? Don't you know what is happening?"
The Temple
The priest just shook his head, dreading the answer,
"No. We were preparing for The Most Radiant Servant," looking around, they could see that the entire temple had been decorated, "but then we felt something - I'm not sure what - we heard thunder. I went outside to see and noticed the sky... and the Beacon."
"We were horrified. Imagine the Radiant Servant coming here for his burial and the Sacred Flames have been snuffed. Truly this is some kind of plot. Meldin, he is a priest of Wee jas, went into the crypt to relight the flames. Truth be told, I am a priest of light and do not have the fortitude for the crypts. Meldin is unafraid of the dead. I told him I would stay here for when the procession arrived."
But You are injured, please allow me to tend your wounds."
He moves to the unconscious merchant and revives him. "What? Oh! Thank the gods for rescuing me!"
Then he heals Deidre who is obviously the most wounded of the group.
All the while, Newt hangs in the back, slightly afraid of Havoc and sticking close to Stratus.
