D&D 5E [IC] Escape from Castle Illvithar

OOC: Siljar explains (in as close to layman's terms as he can muster) what he is able to detect and relates that he doesn't know much about what the Book of Vile Darkness is...but he doesn't recommend touching it.

He takes a moment to detect the school of magic for any of the other auras in the following order:

The object wrapped in cloth, the trunks (not the contents...he recommends not touching the trunks), the bedpan.

After he stares at several of the magical objects a bit more, he examines the wand closely but without touching it.

The object wrapped in cloth is a supple longbow of elven make. Perhaps abjuration or enchantment.

The trunks emit evocation and abjuration auras.

The bedpan detects as conjuration.

The wand is divination and is made of two intertwined pieces of wood ending in a silver cap.

For some reason, the gods had gifted the halfling race with a certain amount of uncharacteristic courage, although some might call it foolhardiness. Approaching the bookshelf, Whisper pulled out a dagger. Looking to Siljar, she rasped, "I'll be the guinea pig, everyone might want to get out of the room."

Once the room is cleared, or others have decided to brave the consequences, she used her cloak to avoid skin contact and pulled Nothing to See Here from the shelf, placing it near the fireplace. Ducking, she skittered as far away from the book as she could while still being able to reach it and lifted the cover using her dagger as a tool, ducking her head in the event of some horrible calamity.

OOC: D20 roll for any potential saving throw she needs to make: [roll0]

...and here's hoping nothing came from that, LOL!

The room is suddenly overtaken in complete and total darkness. Not just any darkness, but arcane darkness that not even darkvision can seem to pierce.

OOC: Detect Magic is concentration based, so you can't maintain it and Unseen Servant at the same time. I think casting any ritual will actually cancel any continuing concentration based spells, IIRC, but don't have my books in front of me to verify.

Just let it happen, this should be pretty fun, all things considered.

In the darkness, Whisper attempts to close the book using her dagger.

"Its dark.... I can see even in the deepest depths of the underdark, yet I see nothing. Nothing to see here is correct"
OOC: wonder if I could group around for that magic Longbow

Lights on.

"Hey!" Whisper rasped, "I'm still alive!" She seemed pretty surprised by the fact and checked herself over to make sure she was actually still in one piece. "Well, that could be handy to help us hide." Whisper returned the book to the bookshelf.

"That could be incredibly useful" looking at the now closed book. Naeris now turns his attention to the Longbow lying upon the cloth that once surrounded it

It's got silver metal and a darkwood frame. It's a longbow. The cloth wrapping it is quite dusty felt. it has the faces of two demons facing towards the front of it.

Feeling somewhat more courageous, Whisper pulled The Compendium of Enchanted Items off the shelf and tossed it to the drow. "Maybe it's in here?"
