D&D 5E [IC] The New World (Volo Monsters)

[Creamsteak]

Moon Moon figures turnip greens and other tubers might work, maybe mushrooms or berries. He tries to calmly gather his "treats" and approach from the darkness.

OOC: [roll0] Animal Handling check. If he succeeds, spell save DC is 12. If he fails, he's going to try offering the treats to the bugbear.

Though the pickings are slim, the goat watches Moon Moon gather food appreciatively, and is willing to let him approach. It startles as he actually casts the spell, but quickly calms under its influence. It jerks a bit again as Moon Moon mounts, but seems to decide that breakfast is adequate compensation, and munches as it carries him to the river.

It crosses the creek portion calmly -- neither as quickly as Karok nor as deliberately as Nert -- without even the slightest misstep or slip. Upon reaching the far side, it takes a step toward the boulders beyond, then looks hard at Karok and freezes, offering Moon Moon the opportunity to dismount.

 

[Shayuri]

"Throw a rope back," Saashala calls out. When she has hold of the other end, she ties it to a branch on her side, making a sort of guideline.

Holding onto this, and moving very carefully, she makes her way over the cataract!

 

[Creamsteak]

Moon Moon thanks the thing with a pat and a scratch and leaves it behind. He waves as it leaves. "Good doggy."

 

[ammulder]

The goat gives Moon Moon an appreciative glance, then glances at Karok again fearfully, and takes a big leap away. As soon as it moves...

OOC: Someone please note if you're going to throw the rope back to Saashala.

Since the others apparently don't want his help, Karok turns his attention on the goat. He's hungry, and he'd rather not dip in to his rations if he can help it. He lifts a finger at it, and an icy blast lances across the ground at it.

OOC: Ray of Frost: Attack: [roll0] Damage: [roll1]

 

[ammulder]

The temperature in the area seems to drop a degree or two as Karok attacks the goat. The icy blast catches it midway through its second leap, and the goat crashes limply to the rocks.

 

[Creamsteak]

OOC: Oh god, you ! At least Moon Moon has cure wounds. I guess we'll see how this goes...

The kobold is shocked, turns to face the orc, growls and charges while screaming out "You no take candle!" and slashing.

OOC: Scimitar, [roll0] to hit for [roll1]

Karok is surprised by the kobold's reaction to him killing the goat. It's a goat!

As the kobold's scimitar slices him, he steps back, and his first thought is to launch his Magic Missiles at the diminutive dragonling. But "Mom" liked him, and he needed allies. The bugbear didn't like him, the hobgoblin challenged every decision he made. While the Kobold was tiny, he had some measure of power.

"Hold!" the orc said, falling to one knee from the pain, "I just wanted to provide food for the group! What more noble destiny for a creature than to give us strength to stand against our invaders!"

Of course, Karok isn't stupid, and even as he drops to one knee, he readies his last magic missile. Should the Kobold continue his attack, or if Nert should step forward to do so, Karok will of course attempt to take his attacker down first.

OOC: Ready Action: Magic Missiles against whoever attacks Karok.

"Nert!" Saashala demanded, "Throw a rope to me!"

There was nothing she could do to intervene in this mess save flinging bolts of power at them...and that approach would only further fray things!
